Album recommendation: Lose Control by Chantel McGregor
Mark my words, this young woman is destined for greatness. This is her 2nd album but she thinks of it more as a debut because of the nature of her 1st (Like No Other) and it's hard to disagree. As much as I enjoyed Like No Other, Lose Control just feels much more cohesive. The song writing and musicianship is superb.
In writing this album she took inspiration from TV shows like True Detective and True Blood as well as studying the writings of Tennessee Williams and Mark Twain among others. The result is an album that is a mix of southern, blues, gothic and hard rock influences. There are songs that will flat out make you rock and haunting ballads that will stay with you for days. This one is in my top 5 for the year so far, it is just that good. Here's the opening song from the album |

I'll look out for that - liked her first album very much, and there are some great clips on Youtube of her live shows.
In a similar vein - I'm going to see Joanne Shaw Taylor tomorrow night - really looking forward to it. |

Seen her live a couple of times, hopefully she'll get a bit of recognition.
