Ok we have upgraded from iphone 5's to iphone 6's.

We use btconnect email addresses.

On iphone 5 all email accounts worked fine.

On iphone 6 one of us is having problems.

We have copied exactly the same settings fromthe phone where the email works fine, which are:

Incoming server: pop.outlook.com

Outgoing server: smtp.outlook.com

all other settings are the same, except for the obvious email address and password.

The password is 100% correct, as it has been reset and this email account works fine on a laptop.

Just get the error message: "The user name of password for Btconnect is incorrect"

We have toggled on and off airplane mode. We have reset network settings. We have done a hard reset of phone.

What else????

Have you looked at the Advanced settings?

Incoming Settings
Use SSL - On
Authentication - Password
Server Port - 995

You imply you have retyped the email information. When I have upgraded any iPhone I have always done a backup on the old phone and a restore on the new one. This ensures that all settings are going to be identical! To get passwords to transfer I think the backup has to be set to be "encrypted"

We did restore from backup that was encrypted and hit this problem. It has been retyped, as we have deleted the email account and started again....about 15 times now !

If you can try setting up the email account up on another iPhone from scratch to prove where the problem is. If it works then at least you know the solution will be phone end related.

Just a thought but it doesn't now require two step factor authentication, does it?

Brilliant idea, thanks.

So tried this and chose "other" under new accounts and entered name, email and password and it has taken me straight to a blank incoming server for me to fillin.

On the problem ohone it fills that in as outlook365 and then I change it.

Is there a setting somewhere to stop it doing this?

Ok, weird it has now done the same on another phone.

However, the user name (email) and password are accepted if you sign in onpc or laptop !

Very strange, don't know where to go from here.

If you have the server addresses as outlook.com then that is wrong, obviously.

It is remotely possible someone has set up forwarding from a btconnect.com email address to an outlook.com (or hotmail.com or .co.uk) address. Is this possible?

Do your email addresses end in @outlook.com and you go to www.outlook.com and access the email? If so this is nothing to do with BT and is the Outlook.com website formerly known as Hotmail.

If so, you should set it up on an iPhone by tapping Settings->Mail Contacts & Calendar, then Add Account, and in the big list that appears tap Outlook.com and enter your email address and password.

If you're using a BT internet, BT openworld, BT connect email address then you need to use different server information. First get to the right screen on the iPhone by tapping Settings->Mail Contacts & Calendar, then Add Account, and in the big list that appears tap OTHER.

Now see the page for the server settings to feed into that screen:
