That doesn't surprise me. I doubt Tesco could sell enough Hudl3 tablets to justify a whole new device, when most users who are interested in it will already have a Hudl2 which is "good enough" for most purposes.
They shot themselves in the foot by making the Hudl2 too good value for money last year, and now the tablet market is pretty much stagnating as the devices themselves are powerful enough for all normal needs, much like how most people don't need a more powerful PC than what they have had for years (unless they use it for games). It does seem slightly odd that Tesco would discontinue sales of the Hudl2 only a few weeks after releasing what is a major software upgrade for it, but say that they will continue to provide software updates (presumably security related fixes) for it. Plenty of other companies decide to abandon cheap Android devices almost from day one. Kudos to them for that. Don't tell their shareholders

It's such a shame you can't still get the Nexus 7, or that Google didn't release a successor (the 9 and Pixel C aren't really aimed at the same market) as native Android makes my Nexus 7 nicer to use than my wife's newer Galaxy Tab S which lags with TouchWiz despite a far superior chipset.
For value, I'd still say the Hudl 2 is best but a portable battery charger is maybe advisable if you use it a lot away from mains power. That's about the only issue though. |

Maybe they are going to just let the stock sell out and that will be it. A shame as it's perfectly good for another Christmas.
They should have continued production in my opinion. |

Now people are asking £150 plus for these on Ebay!
They are good, but not that good. |

They are good, but not that good. It's ironic this thread is called 'Hudl 3' when it will never exist. |

Sorry I completely forgot about this thread!. It's bloody ironic my sons Hudl decided to die on the day Tesco officially said they won't be making it anymore!. I'm so annoyed, I can't even get the Hudl 2 anymore!. I've managed to get a refurbished Hudl 1, for now and he can have it for Christmas. I know it won't last long though.
What's the next best tablet for the same sort of price? (£100). It's for a 5/6 year old for games and watching YouTube/Netflix? |

Watchdog on BBC1 last night had a segment about some 'Hudl's screens was cracking during charging and Tesco are denying its a fault and charge £70 to repair them ... Watchdog has asked people to contact them if anyone else has had same problem .

We were in a similar situation to you. My sons Hudl 1 is almost ready to die after 2 years of plenty of usage so was planning on getting the Hudl 3 for Xmas. After a fair bit of looking around I bought the lenovo yoga 2 8 inch. £130 at John Lewis so 2 year warranty aswel. It's very similar spec to Hudl 2 but with a bigger battery. It ships with kitkat but is upgradable to lollipop and it's a close to stock android skin after the lollipop upgrade. It feels 10x faster than the Hudl 1.

I wish Google would make another affordable tablet too. Amazon does them, but they're much more like what you'd expect from something cheap - even before considering the restrictive nature of the Amazon Fire OS.
It's a shame Tesco stopped making the Hudl 2, and that Google stopped making the Nexus 7 (even older than the Hudl) because both are still excellent and fit for purpose. I know the industry doesn't work like that. Too many people would just write off a 2013-made device in 2015/6 as outdated, obsolete, trash - without even using it. I haven't had Android M for my Nexus 7 yet, but when it comes it's going to have another year at least in it. Possibly the only tablet I've owned that will still be usable right up until the battery is all but dead, or I break or lose it. |

The reviews of the Yoga 2 on the JL site are not encouraging, citing WiFi dropoff and failure to wake from sleep as common faults.

Yeah we've seen this too. It's a great bargain at £99, but at £150...I think I could buy something better anyway somewhere else for the same price or not much more. It's stupid. I hope no-one falls for it.

I was think of getting a Hudl 2 but decided I'll opt for something else. I looked at the yoga tablets but I worried about Lenovo, because of them having spyware/malware on their devices. So fenlander, you should check if it spyware/malware is pre-installed on that yoga. Quote:

Win10 tablets will be better for some people - like my mum who only uses her tablet for browsing and email. If you want casual gaming, W10 tablets are fairly lousy compared to Android. |

Yes, they are fragile touchscreens - they're built to a price so not "bomb-proof" (so take better care, you f'ckwits) but to link charging to touchscreen damage is bloody ridiculous.... <and breathe...> Touchscreen cost to me is around £30, the LCD is often damaged too by the impact - so another £35 if it is - and it takes me about 40-45 minutes to change one (first one took over an hour). £70 is a bargain! |

Noticed in my local Tesco today all traces of the Hudl2 have vanished and in its place a Windows tablet display has appeared.
