Haven't heard much about this so far so I assume it will just be as normal.

Songs from the 80s movies etc, which means celine Dion , Whitney etc as per usual

doesn't matter what the themes are if we will just get the same terrible songs anyway

even last year in weeks that the themes were generic and allowed acts to basically sing anything they wanted we still got whitney and mariah etc etc

look at bootcamp , no themes and still poor songs were used

thing is even a week like 80s week , there was so much good music in the 80s that could be used , but when they do 80s week on here its like the song choices were from a school disco compilation album

Week 1: Number ones. Week 2: American Legends. Week 3: Madonna vs Mariah Carey. Week 4. Prefab Sprout vs Tears for Fears. Week 5:Frozen Theme. As you can see weeks 4 onwards not possible as itv only have rights to a small number of songs.

Which goes back to the label rights I highlighted a few months ago. The show does not have the rights to cover every single song that exists out there which is why we're stuck with the same old repeated material.

and is that just because they dont want to pay for the access to a wider range of music ?

even with the rights issues i cant believe the availability is as limited as it appears and not just a lack of imagination by the producers

It's always the same themes year after year that yields the old songs again and again. .

Daft isn't it - yet the same old songs are trotted out year after year - then Simon saying it was a bad choice of song? I wish the contestants would just say "well it was chosen for me from a bloody shite list'....!!!

I do hope so, I can never get enough of hearing p*ss poor karaoke versions of I Have Nothing, And I'm Telling You, My Heart Will Go On etc.

How could anyone ever get tired of Queen and Jacko weeks?

Though I am looking forward to hearing a few up to date numbers as well. I mean, if we're lucky, we may get to hear a song or two that was written THIS CENTURY

I actually think last year was quite varied for song choices - we got modern songs in Changing, All About That Bass, Thinking Out Loud, Chandelier etc and even more varied older songs like 500 Miles, Its A Shame. Granted we got the same old Man in the Mirror, Listen, I Have Nothing, Hero, Feeling Good (and poor old Andrea got saddled with most of them) but youre always going to get that, they clearly pull in the votes and go down well.

This year I think (hope) we will get a bit of variety in themes - Cheryl said last year she was frustrated with the same old boring themes and she does appear to have some more influence. I'd like to see less genre and artist based themes and more broad ones offering a bit more flexibility. A current top 40 theme would be good - I have no problems with UK themes, number ones, USA, Halloween week etc.

They need to can Halloween Week now, half the songs bear no significance to Halloween now.

I don't mind wider themes like "judges' choice" or number 1s, it narrows it down a little bit but still gives the chance for an act to get a song that suits them. And I dont like the thought of having no theme at all. The one I hate most is disco week, ridiculously dated and it's not as if any artist who ever goes on X Factor is going to release a disco album. It's just there to force the Sam Baileys and Andrea Faustinis of the world to sing I'm Every Woman or No More Tears (Enough Is Enough) so they don't sing only ballads every week.
