Mr Nice trying to be Mr Nasty. It just doesn't work.

I wouldn't call Gary 'Mr. Nice'. I'd call him Mr. Dull or Mr. Boring trying to be Mr. Nasty. No, it doesn't work at all.

I've always suspected that his "I'm Mr Nice Guy" was an act and that he could actually be quite nasty. Having said that his current portrayal of "Mr Nasty" doesn't ring true either as he is trying to emulate Gordon. He seems to have trouble being himself so we will probably never know.

Reported in the Sun that he walked out last night because he was disappointed with his team!!

I have to agree with some of the comments on Gary.

Who is this guy?

If he's trying to act like Gordon Ramsay, then he's not doing a very good job. And if this is his 'true' personality, it's not very nice at all. I don't mind not being nice, but downright condescending with his contestants isn't good viewing.

These guys are so scared to breathe let alone speak, it makes for uncomfortable viewing. At least Gordon didn't discourage any of his team to have the odd blether and chat with each other.

Jeez it's like watching a bunch of chastised kids being told off for being naughty........but for what?

Whereas in the other camp, we have contestants and JC trying too hard to be natural and it just ain't.

Not impressed by the first show but hopefully it'll improve.

I dunno why he shut the kitchen down after only a couple of servings? What on earth did he expect from a group of people who have no proper cooking experience? They aren't going to serve up cordon bleu dinners immediately. I also thought it funny that at times he slipped out of his nice 'telephone' voice and in to a sort of mockney when he got really angry.

Good points and did anyone else notice how his manner changed in a second as soon as a couple of Zzzzzzzzz-list celebs came up to chat to him? Talk about a total asslicker

Maybe he is REALLY a ****?

all smarm and nice for the cameras on cookery shows coz he wouldnt win over your mam with a sweary mouth on telly.

Perhaps this is the way he REALLY is in his restaurants?

But, yeah, it does appear a little fake like!

my mum finds him to be an irritating little f*rt.

anyhow, with Ramsey it was the real article
with Rhodes its like sucking a lemon.

Gary is trying to be Gordon, he doesn't however have the skill to get 3 stars, the charisma to motivate and the aura to get five novices to follow him to the end of the world.

JCN was fantastic as a motivator with five novices, now he needs to start turning the screws on his 5 with knowledge to maintain the lead over Gary.

BTW when will chunk chips feature on the menu and when will she turn up in the restaurant in person?

You may change your opinion when you see him throwing plates at the wall.

Okay, so we're all agreed on how Gary is annoying by trying to be something he's not. No arguments there.

But as far as the first vote goes, Can we vote Simon out please????

WHY do these 'reality' television programmes INSIST on having the token CAMP gay guy? I dont have anything against gay guys (let me make that point clear). But they really dont have to be the CAMPEST they can find. (Hell knows, he might not be gay. Like I said, thats not the point. Unlucky for him though if he aint. ).

But I dont think I can deal with someone thats more camp than an overnight stay at a Glastonbury. He's got more mince than a butchers!

I dont think I can watch if he stays. Its too close to Big Brother 6 and you can bet your house they are gonna have another Marco *shudders violently*.

I dont know if this guy can cook or not. But as a member of public who is given the option to vote purely on whether we 'like' someone, he HAS to go.

Mind you, the voting British public is warped IMO. I refer you to the last 2 Big Brothers and the winners (the portugeezer and that Scottish salmon from the Orkeys).

You KNOW they will vote to keep him in....just because the girlies like him and he annoys the boys!

You're not right there.....I'm a girlie and I think he's crap. He's so fake and although a lot of camp, gay men are funny, this one isn't. He's incredibly irritating and has no wit to compensate.

Gary seems to be being himself imo. Top chefs are like that.

I was pmsl when I saw that!!

What I find odd about Gary is the need for all the swearing, it just doesn't sound right coming out of his mouth, it's too staged and contrived.... Why swear just for effect.....?

is it a requirement of a "top chef" to be rude and patronising?
seems to me that being obnoxious towards your staff is the last resort of the incompetent manager.

Chefs are notoriously awful people to work with. I have a couple of friends who work in restaurants both of whom complain how domineering their bosses are.
