Has the Salsa always been so much about lifts like Kirsty & Brendan's?

I don't remember the salsa being so much about lifts before.

It reminded me of the excessive reliance on lifts in Dancing on Ice.

Was Ainsley's so full of lifts? I don't think so.

On SCD it does turn into some weird lift fest opportunity Veri. But it shouldn't be. I have danced salsa 3 times a week for nearly two decades and can count the number of times I have been lifted on my fingers. Drops yes, dips yes but lifts almost never. It's a club dance and throwing people around in the air in a crowded dance hall or night club is just dangerous. Too much risk of kicking another dancer in the head,.

Remember Janette and Jake #Lifts????

It's one of the few that seem to be allowed to have lifts on strictly. American smooth style ballroom doesn't have lifts in it and (please correct me if I'm wrong) I don't think Argentine Tango is as lift heavy as strictly would suggest.

Charleston is a bit ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ since I know basically nothing about it. Stick a bunch of lifts in. Why not?

Arlene, where are you now?

I hardly recognised it as a Salsa. She amazed me when afterwards she said " I really had fun doing it " or words to that effect. You could have fooled me Kirsty, you looked as though you hated every minute !!

I see you've already forgotten Victoria Pendleton's Salsa.

I envy you...

Tbf Brendan clearly knows Kirsty is shit and is trying to keep her feet off the ground.

Have to admit when it was over I thought he had done it that way so she didn't have much to do. They were saying afterwards they didn't have much rehearsal time maybe that's why?

He is well known for covering up a lack of ability with lifts. About as predictable as the rugby result.

As An Thropologist says, the salsa you see on Strictly isn't how it looks in the clubs. Nothing of the sort. Shame.

I think Brendan was trying to keep the dance content down to cleverly disguise her lack of musicality. It's the male pro equivalent of sashaying in front of your partner aka the Ola strategy.

I hope they last till the rumba and samba. Should be entertaining if they do. I love salsa but that massacre of the dance was very very amusing. Hope Brendan is taking his vitamins.

I hope that they don't last that long. The poor woman looks like she's being held hostage.
I don't think she's having the required lovely time.

Brendan's even started with the 'this girl's', it's only week 2. It's always fun when Brendan starts to panic!

I do feel a bit sorry for Brendan. He's had a load of duffers who on paper should have been decent.

To be fair to Brendan's partners he has proved, since it was first introduced, that he doesn't know a salsa from his elbow. God love him.

Who were you thinking of? Michelle Williams is the only one I expected to be better than she was because of her music background.

I think Brendan's had a fair share of good and not so good (and a couple that were dire!) over the 11 years he's been on the show. Lisa, Kelly, Sophie, Natasha - all decent partners. Sunetra could have been if she'd had more training time and Brendan had been more invested in their partnership.

Which might suggest that his teaching is somewhat lacking.

Looking at the above rundowns, Brendan's had over the years half good/very goods and half bad.

His choreo can vary wildly accordingly from truly sublime to desperate. He doesn't really mask very well limitations.

As for salsa, all those I have seen on the show since series 4 has never quite matched the exuberance and simple joy of Ramps'...with no lifts.
