Has the Salsa always been so much about lifts like Kirsty & Brendan's?

Salsas not really about lifts its about musicality.

After the embarrassment of Iwan's cha cha cha, for which I place much blame on Ola, Kirsty's salsa was dreadful beyond belief. Outside of the lifts she spent her time walking strangely with the arms attached to the base of a dress that did no cover her bum. There was no attempt at steps, not much leg movement and nil hips. She looked dead in expression of face and eyes. How she avoided being bottom two is beyond me. I don't care for Brendan's latin choreography at all.

Speaking of Victoria Pendleton, I had cause to review some of her dances on YouTube Saturday and her salsa, which was her last dance before elimination, was quite good and her best latin. There were lifts but lots more couple dancing.

In his list of poor partners Kirsty must be near the top.

The other year Len announced on the live show new rules about lifts and I remember that's when the number of lifts in the AS went from 3 to 4 (or 2 to 3? ). I think that might have been when lifts were first allowed in the Salsa. There were other changes about lifts and his announcement came with a warning that the relaxed rules meant the judges would mark down illegal lifts. Maybe someone with a better memory will chip in with more information.

I think there was something like that but like you I couldn't swear to the detail. I also seem to remember that the old pugnacious Brendan before he became Brendanlite (who I much prefer!) was the bad boy for illegal lifts.

Ramps' demonstrated musicality, sheer joy to watch and still one of my favourite dances on SCD.

Sometimes the overuse of lifts are to overcompensate of not knowing more content. Most salsa enthusiasts I know that do it regularly in classes or socially at clubs at hard loving salsa night sessions hate the strictly salsas.

It was to hide her poor dancing ability at this stage. As was the awkward start and ending on the judges desk, Craig's face was a picture at the end.
