1). Georgia & Gio
Pleasantly surprised with Georgia. I liked how Georgia attacked the jive and how lively and energetic the pair looked in week 1. Wished Gio didn't leave Georgia alone at the very beginning of their waltz, as her solo immediately showed tension in her arm movements and shoulders (perhaps its a bit too early to leave celebs alone). Judges were spot on about her spoiled top line. It's a step back for the couple this week, but she'll dust herself off and forge forward. As the weeks progress, I would like to see glimpses of her emotional depth as its difficult to gauge at the moment. I think her ability to dig deep and to show her depth in harmony with the ballroom dance/music scores could help the couple's cause. If she can consistently correct the ballroom technique lapses as the weeks progress, this couple may make a deep run in the dance competition.
2). Helen & Aljaz
If her week 1 waltz is any indication, Helen has one of the most natural feel and ability to dance alongside subtle musical crests and waves in classical, instrumental scores. I think she's in the right industry (arts and entertainment) as well. Thought she made a real valiant effort with the cha cha, as her hips and leg work seemed a bit forced in the cha cha locks. Her arms are not graceful and sensual yet (relative to Anita's and Georgia's), and I do agree with Darcy, namely about the other latin dances coming her way (especially the samba and salsa), as I want her to do well. While every celeb has something to hone in on, I wish Helen can be more vulnerable in the dances and with the audience/viewers. She's a great actress and may hide a bit behind this fact, but if she can reveal a peek about her true self, motivations, fears, struggles and worries, I think it would add a whole new feel and layer to her future dances. It will be a massive undertaking on her part (imo), but if successful, it would open a floodgate of opportunities for this couple.
3). Jay & Aliona
They have a nice man women look to them and they create a lovely picture together. True, for the waltz, Jay still needs to lengthen his neck and back (bring his shoulders back, chin up) for better posture, and needs to dance away from Aliona when in hold. However, in addition to the nice dancing Jay showcased thus far, its great to watch Aliona's free and uninhibited choreography surfacing. The hockey stick action in their cha cha (nice way of riding the music and teasing the audience), the timing and release of the music and built up tension through the head rolls in the waltz was fun to watch. If anything, these are healthy signs and clues that their partnership is alive and well behind closed doors in the training studio. Think this couple still needs to undergo an important future test that will refine his dancing even more, but for now, its a pleasure watching these two out on the dance floor.
Best of luck to all the celebs and looking forward to their dances.
