Tina Turner - what's your favourite songs ?
Just been listening the 12" remix of Better Be Good To Me, a track that I have always loved by Tina ..
Which of her songs would you choose for a top five/best of ? |

She did an amazing comeback appearance on The Tube in the 80's singing Bowie's Cat People. The opening lines seemed really apt
See these eyes so green I can stare for a thousand years Colder than the moon It's been so long And I've been putting out fire With gasoline awesome |

Don't like her voice much but Proud Mary and Goldeneye are great songs.

Whatever You Want = epicness of mighty proportions. In fact pretty much her entire Wildest Dreams album is just gorgeous.

Tina is one of the greatest singers of all time in popular music. Probably the greatest female rock singer ever but she could also do R&B, Soul, Pop even Country effortlessly.
Many of her best efforts are already mentioned so I would add the 'Acid Queen' from Tommy by the The Who, 'Nutbush City Limits' (a song she wrote, something she didn't do enough') 'Private Dancer', 'Let's Stay Together', 'I Can't Stand the Rain', 'What's Love Got to do With it' , 'What you get it what you see'.... Best legs in rock as well. |

I miss Tina being a force to be reckoned with in music but I think she's retired now. |

I'm a huge fan of Tina Turner and think we're currently lacking ballsy female vocalists who can hold their own in any genre of music - and all without over-sexualising themselves to fit in...I think maybe Pink is the closest we've got these days.
Tina has loads of great tracks but my personal favourites are I Don't Wanna Lose You and Be Tender With Me Baby. They both channel right into my 'emotional response' button from the opening notes...and the angst in her voice gets me every time! In addition to being able to cut it on her own, let's not forget that she was also a fantastic duet partner - see 'It Takes Two' with Rod Stewart and 'It's Only Love' with Bryan Adams - two standout moments and with plenty of concert performances showing they could nail it live. Nowadays, most (not all) mainstream artists can barely hold a note...shame. |

Her songs on CDs sound very bland when compared with her live performances. She turned every track into a gem especially on her What's Love and Wildest Dreams Tours. Her opening act on her Wildest Dream tour, Whatever You Want, is my favourite.

I did have Private Dancer [ the album ] on vinyl and played it a lot, the title track is still superb. Just Be Good To Me is a great song too! River Deep is an all time classic of course, as is Proud Mary....
But after so much airplay down the years, for pure overkill, The Best is a track I'd be happy to never hear again! |

This thread made me go and seek out her back catalogue. Quite remarkable really how her solo career only really ignited when she was already 45 years old.
Anyway I love Typical Male as it's so campy 80s one to add to my 80s party playlist.

I think you have opposed me on this one before. I rate Tina very highly...

Private Dancer.
And I don't mind her version of 'Let's Stay Together' or her duet with Bryan Adams. Most else is hideous. |

Don't really like Tina Turner music especially the early stuff, it doesn't agree with me at all.
However in the 80's she really turned out some brilliant stuff. We don't need another hero, what's love got to do with it, its only love (with bryan adams) simply the best... its like a different artist altogether. |
