Agree. I don't see what's so hard about not objectifying either males or females on the show.

Maybe I've got a bit missing but I actually watch it for the dancing, and seeing men's chests does nothing for me at all.

I don't watch DWTS but do they do this same level of salivating over the men??

Totally agree. I found it unbearable a while back, when Ben Cohen was on, with all the drooling over his chest.

Oh please,

I love all these pc comments, women will always be judged on their looks by men up to a certain age and then they won't., whether you agree or not is of no real interest. It is simply basic human nature for men to go through that process of thought first. Depressing? no not at all, its how some species survives.

I can't speak for women on men's looks and so sorry to the op for not directly answering the question.

I seem to remember a very old man Brucie ogling and passing comments on The Pussycat Dolls especially Nicole when they were on the show some time ago.. was that ok then...

some interesting comments in this thread...

I agree that there is too much "phwoar!" going on BUT tbh I think there's far too much bollocks these days anyway and the letching is just another part of that.

The "themes"... why? just do the dances
The "comedy" links.... why? just show us training and then show us the dancing
There's no need for a little "chat" from Tess (Speaking of which do the wardrobe department hate her?)

Its always been a bit of a cheesy show but it used to be strictly about dancing but now its almost like some said "well I suppose we'd better have a bit of a dance in there as well"

It was inevitable I guess perhaps they should take a year off.

Just a general point first - Because women get sexually harassed doesn't make it ok, or worse, funny when men get it in return. That's one of those ideas that really offends me as a woman and I never quite understand why so many women would try and use it as an argument when it just makes us look like hypocrites. It's that thinking that makes some people believe it's ok to grab David Beckham's crotch at an event. Just treat each other like you'd want (or better yet, how you'd want your mum or daughter) to be treated.

Back to the topic - I find it very uncomfortable to watch, perhaps moreso because Gleb is so new and hasn't really had time to bed in and be known to us or to the hosts so we can't know if the joke is with him or on him. Whereas the Aljaz joke was funny and playful, the overt sexual innuendo with the Gleb version of the jokes are pretty uncomfortable to watch, especially as it is so clearly scripted.

I think the worst dancer objectification before this one I can remember, and one that I still remember now is one that Len (I think it was Len) said to Ola about her being a Pole dancer from Poland after she did her dance around her exceptionally lumbering partner at the time. I know it was just a play on words but at the time I was pretty dumbfounded and, iirc, it didn't go down particularly well at the time either.

I agree with this. Two wrongs don't make a right.

The absolute low point is when Darcy starts fanning herself. Maybe she *will* jump on the desk and rub her legs like Vic Reeves this year, just for a change. She's probably got the muscles for it.

To clarify, I think there is a huge difference between being 'too PC' and not wishing any of the contestants to receive any compliments about their looks, their dress or how sexy they were on the dancefloor ...and viewers disliking the fact that in the small amount of time that Gleb has been on the screen, the majority of it has been focussed only on lusting over how he looks and constantly laden with sexual innuendo.

Dancing is very visual, and of course both sexes dress to impress and be attractive. I have no problem with compliments here and there, particularly if they're looking fabulous on the night or were looking hot in their routine. Surely though, people can see the difference between that and the way Gleb has been constantly referred to since he started the show? There are other OTT examples that have been highlighted in this thread too. It doesn't follow that people who are cringing at this behaviour though, must be PC bores who don't want to hear any compliments on the show at all.

Ok - so by that logic, Len can admire the erect nipples of one of the ladies on dancefloor? That's fine?

What specific comment about Gleb has been the equivalent of talking about a woman's erect nipples?

If it worked both ways it'd be fine the whole idea of the thread is that it doesn't work both ways, making sexual innuendo about a woman would be met with a truckload of feminists columnist and bloggers writing hate pieces by the following Monday about "Sexist Strictly".

I know. My personal opinion is that the CONSTANT oggling and sexual innuendo directed at Gleb since he started the show is OTT and cringeworthy and I think if 2 male celebrities behaved that way to a new female dancer EVERY time she was mentioned, with male presenters using handcuffs etc there would have been a bigger reaction against it.

I have no problem with males or females being complimented on how they look from time to time, but there is a clear difference between that and the OTT stuff we've seen with Gleb - its constant - particularly since hes new and its all hes received since he started. I would have the same objections if it had been a female dancer. That doesn't mean I never want to see a compliment being paid to someones appearance which I think a few people are assuming, just that the 'Gleb behaviour' is a bit much and I do think there would have been a bigger outcry had a female dancer be subjected to it.

It's all fine. It's tongue in cheek stuff and nothing to get het up about. Tess, Claudia, Len and even Brucie are all married . I doubt they'd be seriously 'phoarring' with their spouses watching

I wonder if Claudia's kids were watching. Does anyone want to see their mother doing that? Anyway, it's not fine, it's bloody toe-curlingly embarrassing. It's also just completely uneccessary, we're there to watch them dance, not to watch them wet themselves over a half-decent looking bloke.

Its just not necessary in principle. And its totally out of place on a family show.
Keep it for low rent Blackpool hen parties where it belongs.
