David Bowie's death is being handled nicely by Nick Ferarri, his show being interspersed with small tributes & soundbytes from various people.

Yes, so much more interesting and heartfelt to hear from people who knew him before he was famous than celebs gushing about him.

WARNING!!!! David Bowie overload today. Clicky off all media where possible. Even BBC R4 Today programme have lost their marbles, with contributors making fools of themselves.

Pierre Boulez, the famous Conductor and Avant Garde composer died last week but we didn't hear too much about that!

Well of course it's sad when anyone dies but it depends on one's musical tastes. He was never important in my life but I must have caught, incidentally some of his music but have never actively listened to any of it or bought his music but that goes for any others in the pop world. That's all.

Yes some UKIP supporters will vote for us to stay in the EU ,the same as some Labour supporters will vote to leave and some Conservative supporters will vote to leave.

As i recall it was the left led by Tony Benn and Peter Shore who campaigned for us not to join in the first place a complete non story.

Quite right Hitch. The media have gone into their absolutely ridiculous mode today as they do with some stories every so often. Avoid media outlets if at all possible.

And then you have the endless tweets from celebs being reported who probably never met the guy or went to his concerts who just feel the need to jump on the bandwagon for some self publicity.

Hashtag stop it.

Difference is that UKIP is first and foremost an anti EU party with leaving at the core. Whatever way you look at it these are strange figures.

It is sure but a party any party will never consist of 100% of people who agree on exactly the same thing, many may vote for UKIP simply because they feel other parties have lost connection with them.

They are primarily as you say an anti EU party but as ever there are more strands then just that.

Enjoying the tributes to Bowie. He was a massive cultural icon and he has made many millions of people's life just that little bit better with his music. Perhaps you could say that the tributes are celebrating a part of British culture which a lot of folk seem to believe we don't do enough.

So am I. Pity some people feel they have to make snarky comments. Still, that's free speech.

No. Wrong Sir! Went out in car and put radio on and tested out my usual presets until I found a sane station eg R3. In the process I stopped for a minute on LBC and couldn't believe my ears when some bloke phoning in was blubbing to an equally nauseous JOB re his loss. Unbelievable.

I heard that and it reminded me of the Diana hysteria.

He wasn't you dad or grandad or your uncle or a close friend - they are the ones who should be blubbering. Just seems to be a lot of middle aged men trying to resurrect their youth from the 70s and 80s. JOB didn't help.

Great iconic musician sure - but get a grip.

The death of a musical icon will always generate this kind of media repsonse.
Wasn't the response similar (if not more profound) in 2009 when Michael Jackson died?

It's to do with getting old and seeing the iconography of your past life gradually disappearing. It's like finding they've knocked down your old school and replaced it with a Tescos, or when your mum chucks out all your old clothes.

They've demolished the first two homes I lived in. From birth until aged 12, there is no trace of where I lived. I should be ok on the next home, it was a Victorian House in a residential street. But yes, it did feel odd when I saw the "new" buildings where I once lived.

The hospital I was born in is now a Tesco.
