She did it with Bill Buckley and Mike Graham too
Nigel from Maidstone used to do the same thing !!”

Your last line brought on the tremors here Paul. I remember creepy Nigel well from the times he used to haunt the late night at Talksport. Every time I see his name I get the image of Norman Bates popping into my head. Am sure he is a nice guy but he freaks me out a wee bit. Does he still call up late night radio shows?

Not sure to be honest I DO know that he made the transition to LBC with Duncan but didn't get the chance to get his equipment out on air ... I recall he was most put out
And as for Pauline on LBC they tend to stick her on either as last caller on the show or about one minute before the news ....😄

In regards to monitoring the desk ouput I've never known this to be done unless it's not possible not have a Off Air ouput. Once compression and limiting has been applied it can sound very different to the desk ouput hence why you would listen to a off air output.

LBC use a pre delay feed to listen to in the studio.”

Thanks for the reply.

It seems you are talking about the slight delay of a fraction of a second which is caused by the audio processing (compression and limiting) being in the digital domain as it always tends to be these days. I understand this.

Eeee it were grand when I were a lad and everything was analogue (including telephones) and we didn't have this problem. I know that being digital has some advantages for compression and limiting though. Having a slight delay means that the processor gets "advance warning" of peaks and spikes that are coming.

Strictly speaking though, the presenter is not monitoring the Off Air output, but rather the post-processing output and although I can understand the reason for trying to do this I would say that if the delay causes a problem then that is all the more justification for monitoring pre-processing (the real-time desk output) or at least giving the presenter the option to switch between pre and post.

None of that changes the fact that Brian is still a plonker by the way.

[quote=Venetian;81361054]I'm flagging up both your posts Dave, I have comments on both. Firstly The Old LAGS are not "The Radio London Fanclub". They are a group who like and enjoy the programmes of Jo Good and Simon Lederman viz The Lederman and Good Society "The Old LAGS". Your comment in your second paragraph regarding Simon Lederman playing the piano when Duncan is on only goes to show that the Old LAGS as a group would not be fans of Duncan.

It wasn't Simon playing the piano. It was a caller who said he was a LAGS & told Simon he plays the piano rather than listen. He sounded like he spoke for them all.

Personally I find Duncan back to his very best on BBC Radio London. I enjoyed him very much on Talksport, loathed him on LBC where he seemed to be running his show on strict guidelines, but happily he is back to his old self and I for one enjoy him chatting to "old people" (many of them former LBC phone-in contributors). ... We all like who we like but for me Duncan has come home.
.”

Very interesting info, and thank you. I'm guessing that Lederman fans might be feeling a bit aggrieved that DB took his slot..? But they don't seem representative, as all other reaction to DB's move seems to be positive, including on a 'DB or IC' thread on Digital Spy a few months ago.

DB gets a lot of callers who say they have come over from 'the dark side' and he seems pretty popular. I never heard him on TalkSport, but like you, I couldn't stand him on LBC and thanks Paul, for the info that he left of his own accord. I think it says a lot about LBC... DB is a really good listen now, and his style is just a reminder of how good LBC once was.

The Radio London Fanclub which is named the LAGS really don't like him. I wonder if he made a mistake and would've been wiser to go to the new Talk Radio station instead. On Radio London he talks news before 12 then after seems to just have fun with older people. I don't reckon he's happy. He should be reading the news instead.”

He's stopped all the shouting now and it's much better for his blood pressure.

OK then, it's just you quoted the Old LAGS are being representative of all listeners to BBC Radio London, which is not the case. It's being somewhat presumptive to say that "he sounded like he spoke for them all .. " though isn't it. Just because someone echoes your own opinion doesn't make it right does it

You are very welcome he told me that himself during several conversations I had in private on Twitter but said much the same to my friend Polly and others elsewhere

Sorry didn't mean to upset you. The man just sounded like a rep of them and I often listen to the station and I hear them on so I thought they were like a fan club or something. I still don't think Barkes will have anymore listeners than before.

That's one of the dangers of a Facebook group or indeed a thread on here
MENTIONING NO NAMES but sometimes people sometimes take it on themselves to be a self appointed spokesperson or MONITOR of a presenter or stations output
I certainly don't think Venetian or any of us could possibly take offence at any of the well presented points you've made
Proof if any was needed that we can all have a good conversation on here without it as we say here oop north "All kicking off " 😄

Do you listen to him then instead of Lbc at night? Do you think any others do? Can't see it myself.

I do listen to Duncan instead of LBC. I like Ian Collins but Duncan does it for me, Ian was much better on Talksport. Not sure about listening figures, I suspect LBC has a greater number but I will leave it for others with greater knowledge to confirm that.

I'm sure he doesn't regret leaving LBC, and good for him. He's fine now. A whole lot better than he was on LBC which I thought was a truly dire period for him. As one or two have mentioned he was Globalized at LBC. But now he's been given some flexibility at the Beeb he sounds much better for it.

I used to love The Colonel in his creatures of the night persona
Many happy memories of Aylish O'Shea the Irish singer Mr Mad Powder Puff to whom everyone was a blooming old trout and many many more
At one stage they'd even run ten minute segments of Carry on film soundtracks presumably whilst they took a break
A million years away from the presenter we have now

Try on here Drinker, they've got an audio extract of it too.
