I for one was enjoying the exchanges, isn't that what public forums are for? I have read this thread for years (not so much a contributor these days as I hardly listen to the station) and have never thought it was clicky

Is it just me and am I alone in not caring what Emma Thompson thinks of the EU and Britain.

As for the Daily Mail which moans like hell every day on its pages convinced as it is that the Country is going to hell in a hand cart, the hypocrisy level is at 10 on the Richter Scale.

Emma Thompson's new film opens this week. Today you can't open a paper or go on social media without seeing her mentioned. Whether her comments were in order to garner publicity for herself and the film or distract from the lukewarm reviews is anybody's guess but, nonetheless, job done!

Have LBC ever had a film review section? Would enjoy that, sometimes listen to the film reviews on 5 Live but they are a bit up themselves and too clever for their own good.

That's a good point. It would provide an alternative to all the political debate on there. Say an hour as part of someone's programme. Guess it would depend on which presenter has the most interest in films. There must be plenty of critics who could do an hour a week with them.

I used to listen to Mayo and Kermode, but as you say it's too smug to be listenable.

It's not just you and yes, the hypocrisy of the 'outrage' is very clear, isn't it? I think you should find a name for that scale other than Richter, though. What should it be? The Mail-Sidebar-of-Shame Scale?

James Max used to do some film reviews with a guy whose name I can't remember, but who used to be paired with Petrie Hosken way back when.

Maybe a two hour show devoted to film, tv and books could be fitted into the schedule somewhere. Just about everybody likes at least one of those and there is always new material to talk about and if it is a quiet week for new stuff then just fall back on the classic "what's your top five films"

Said about Emma Thomson, but so easily could be describing Mr OB!. No surprises that he's spent 10 minutes spitting out his defence for her before saying "but that's not what we're talking about"

This was a great hour of radio with Ferrari and callers discussing champagne socialists. It must have made for uncomfortable listening for 44 year old Brian.

What worries me is the illness which seems unique to DM readers and Nick Ferarri devotees. I am talking about this boiling blood ailment which many of them say they suffer from. Sounds dreadful and my advice to those poor souls would be to stop reading and listening to stuff that is making you unwell.

James "Movies" Hartigan was the chap in question. I had a lively exchange with him when a BNP representative was given any easy time on his show with the inept Hosken.

Back to regular monitoring of the ever pompous Brian on Friday this week. I imagine he will accuse someone of being a RACIST! while hiding away in his liberal elite, white enclave. Can you imagine how eager the Brian's would be to attend a party at Emma T's Hampstead home and discuss how jolly clever and smug they all are?

If only. I have been campaigning for LBC to cover theatre, music and the arts for some time. Seems preposterous that they are based.in the West End of London and aren't able to offer more on these subjects. Easier to talk about the NHS I suppose than have any real entertainment or discussion on the arts.

In the very early days of LBC, they used to have a daily Arts Programme at 7pm, I think - the name Tony Parsons rings a bell as a presenter. Then on Sunday afternoons Carol Allen presented a film review programme.

When they had News Direct, they had a one minute film review.

I just don't think that sort of programming would fit in with their current format.

There is the same amount of outrage and faux outrage generated by many news organisations on the other side of the fence to the Daily Mail. It's equally transparent.

It would probably fit in better then the sex show with Lucy Beresford and in the same slot.

Emma Thompson has the same right of reply as Frank Lampard did...

At least Nick had the courtesy to accept that he was wrong on that one. O'Brien would probably have cut the caller off and carried on moaning.

Great show from Nick as usual, some good calls this morning although the topics weren't as light-hearted as yesterday morning.”

Great radio from Ferrari. He provides a sizeable amount of bluster but was also caught out and was big enough to admit it. No wonder he is so popular and wipes the floor with the manufactured, professionally liberal elite, "gob on a stick" persona of the smug and rather unlikable Brian.

Lampard took Brian to the cleaners for suggesting he was "scum". Thompson would be fawned over by Brian almost as much as if she were (for it is he) his fat tongued Mockney hero!

Amen to all of that.

Emma Thompson is entitled to say what she likes regardless of her social status. At least she was being honest. And considering she's made much of her fame and fortune in the US where she lives half of the time any criticism of her made here particularly that of the DM is all very lame.
