If Miss Thompson wishes not to be criticized, I would advise that she doesn't go off on a tirade about the very country which helped her make her millions. If she insults the country and it's inhabitants, she's fair game for media scrutiny.
If it was a famously right-wing celebrity who had made these remarks, I doubt you would be complaining about the media's treatment of the celebrity. And I believe Ferrari would treat a right-wing celebrity who had made those remarks in exactly the same way as he would a left-wing luvvie.

The UK is also a signatory to various other treaties, such as green emissions ones which we haven't met. There are also the issues of the UK being involved in the Saudi-led Syria airstrikes and the UK selling arms to 13 countries on it's own "Human Rights Abusers List". BanglaRoad, if you think that this country currently has a "good name" internationally then I am afraid you are much mistaken. The UK is already incredibly untrustworthy internationally.
What diverting foreign aid to the homeless and the elderly would do is make the lives of our own citizens (people who have paid into this country's tax system) much better. How can we afford to send so much money abroad to pay for India's nuclear warheads and space programme when we still have homeless people and elderly folks who can't afford to their heating bills. It's shocking.
What's unpatriotic is saying that we should financially assist developing countries when many aspects of our own country are at breaking point.
I don't think we have a duty as a country to help the poor in other countries until we have insured that we don't have homeless people in our own country. We have a duty to help our own citizens.
