According to Len and Bruno - Anita and Daniel's Charleston were of the same quality?

I agree, Anita was undermarked in my opinion and Daniel overmarked. I think they must want him to stay because I thought he was overmarked last week too.

In fairness, Anita didn't dance a Charleston really. It was a swing dance with elements of Charleston. The Charleston parts she did do were decent but at times they were out of sync and its key to be in sync during a Charleston. But the lifts and tricks she did were awesome so its a tricky one to judge. This is why I have problems with the Charleston being in as the pros DONT know it either and its often done wrongly.

Daniels Charleston, although a slower one than normal, was full of content that was danced surpsingly nimbly and neatly and generally in sync with Kristina, although his swivel wasn't as clean. He also got the character right.

In general I think they both had equal pros and cons so the judges marking them similarly is fair. I personally think Anita was a bit better but prob only like half a mark - which obviously they can't have.

The judges has been more then kind to Anita and Gleb in their marking . That was a very average Charleston with poor footwork and very few genuine dance steps . That 8 from Darcy was ridiculous .
What name??

I think it was reasonable. Len doesn't like innovative dance and Daniels dance was competent but inhibited and Anita's was ambitious and lively but not polished.

And I loved glebs choreography but think when you push the boundaries you have to excel to get good marks all round.

Daniel said that he has had dance training, possibly Irish dancing though.

I've always been in favour of decimalization of the scoring system like 5.4 and 6.9 etc. It would give a greater spread.

Anita has twice been seriously undermarked

You know something unusual is happening when Craig gives a higher score than Len. Len can often be petty with his scoring, his low score was either because of the choreography or because he saw Darcy was giving an eight and he thought it was too high.

Bruno was equally petty by making a big deal about Anita's time-keeping, something that wasn't noticed by any of the other judges.

Absolutely the case, there are many and varied styles of Charleston depending on the steps involved. Anita's did have Charleston content, as did Daniel's. Neither of them got the swivel action right however.
We had a great thread on here a couple of years ago where two Charleston teachers/dancers posted during the debate about Natalie Gumede's Charleston iirc and provided loads of video examples of the different styles.

Whilst I think the judges should mark dances on their own merit (based on content, technique execution and performance), I think they should als keep a score of like for like dances so that they have an immediate comparison to make and rank as they score. Maybe they do this already, though it doesn't seem obvious with some better dances getting low scores alongside worse dances.
