Sam Smith - Spectre. Awful
I'm sorry but his new Bond theme is bloody awful. It's not a patch on themes like Live and Let Die, For Your Eyes Only, Goldfinger, Moonraker or Nobody Does It Better, A View To A Kill. Bond themes have got to have great memorable tunes. It's not about lyrics. This is completely in one ear and out the other. It's just some bloke singing in a high voice to a not very memorable tune. One of the worst ever.

Its funny how many threads there are on here now saying that now... people don't agree over a lot of things these days but I think the world in union can agree that Sam Smith's Bond effort is truly one of the worst Bond songs ever.
Nuff said .

It's terrible, in my opinion.
He is this years Adele. Talented, but overrated. |

After listening to it a few more times, it's not quite as bad as I first thought but still dreary, nothing to rave about and a blatant attempt to emulate the success of Adele's hit. Before the performer was announced, I was hoping for a more edgy, exciting number as with You Know My Name (Casino Royale).
The line ' I never shoot to miss' is, to me, cringeworthy. It's like Sam was thinking "This just sounds like all my other songs, now what can I add to make it sound more Bond?". |

It's a droning dirge of a song but it's still better than Skyfall.

Not keen but anything Bond related doesn't agree with me anyway.

It's a horrible song. Really dreary and a pathetic attempt at ripping off Skyfall.
I quite like Sam Smith but it astounds me that THIS is the first Bond song to get to number one when it's so tired sounding and forgettable. |

I hated it on first listen but it has grown on me.
Except it has only grown on me as a Sam Smith song, not a Bond theme. I don't think it makes for a good theme at all, and frankly makes Another Way To Die sound like a Bond classic. |

It's all about getting the artist over now; using Bond to increase their own exposure and fan base as opposed to genuinely complimenting and contributing to the movie it's supposed to be marketing.

And yes, it also doesn't help when the song is actually shit, as is the case here.

Agreed. I don't get the fuss at all.
I think Skyfall was a worthy attrition to the Bond classics although I find Adele, like Sam Smith to be bland. Most big pop stars are these days. |

Skyfall and Writing's on the Wall are both awful. So boring they put you to sleep.

It says a lot about the British public that they chose this dirge as the first Bond theme to reach number 1 in the charts. An awful song for an awful audience, we get the world that we deserve.
If the Bond producers were so adamant on getting an 'of the moment' artist to do the Bond theme why did they just not get Lana Del Rey? I assumed she was the people's choice. |

I think they need to give it to a band again, let someone like Muse do it. Something a bit electronic but orchestral with a soaring chorus

I think it would be an unsafe song to play near a dog.

Personally I've never particularly liked him, I find his voice shrill & hard on the ears.

A theme from Lana Del Rey could be amazing. Her best songs seem to be those she does for movies. I'd rather they go back to getting truly iconic, long standing singers to do the song though rather than catering to current mainstream popularity. |

However-Writings in the Wall is a lame ass attempt to better, classic Bond themes, with screechy vocals. It fails abysmally in its attempts to be a decent Bond theme. |
