I actually don't like any Bond theme from GoldenEye onwards, but this is simply the worst ever, right up there with Die Another Day.

Writing's on the Wall is the worst Bond theme ever. It's so dull, words almost fail me.
I loved Skyfall and at least it had a bit of tempo/beat, whereas this dirge just wails on & on for 4.5 minutes and there's no soul or life to it. Flipping atrocious.

I've only heard it once. Isn't the film out in a week or so? I remember Adele's Skyfall being all over the place.

It's so good that they didn't even use it in the trailers!

Its a strange song. You expect it to build to a strong chorus but it just ends up going no where and Its missing that big belt-it it out finale.

Is it one of the biggest selling #1 singles of the year?

Its funny how many threads there are on here now saying that now... people don't agree over a lot of things these days but I think the world in union can agree that Sam Smith's Bond effort is truly one of the worst Bond songs ever.

Nuff said .

The one weak spot of the Daniel Craig Bonds is their dull theme tunes. "Skyfall"
was the best ,and that's an average pop song.

I really wish the 007 producers would get Goldfrapp to do a Bond Theme-their
music sounds really cinematic, dark and exotic.

His voice irritates me. Sounds like he's been kicked in the knackers.

I must be one of the few who actually like it (or admit it, anyway, considering it's sold shedloads). Not as good as Goldeneye (but then what is), but a lot better than the vast majority of Bond songs. Smith's vocals on it are a bit too 'warbly' (is that a word?) for my taste, but musically and lyrically I like it a lot.

Well I really like it. It has got better each time of listening and I prefer a song that's a grower.

Him and his management certainly don't come off well here: http://crackmagazine.net/2015/10/spe...o-bbc-6-music/

Not even the highly underrated The World Is Not Enough.

I'm still in shock that THIS is the first Bond theme to reach number one. What are all those people hearing that I'm not? To me it's so bland and underwhemling and tired sounding.

Oh dear! Dreadful behaviour on their part.

I really wish the Spectre theme had been given to Lana Del Rey. Some of her best songs are the ones she does for films and she could have turned even this lifeless dirge into something haunting and memorable. She and her team also would not have send nasty emails of this ilk, because she has class.

I'll never understand why some artists are so arrogant.

You didn't really believe that did you ? The BBC have confirmed that the emails were fake and the band Spectres have apologised to Sam and everyone involved for releasing the emails without checking first whether or not they were fake.

It's just because Sam Smith is the man of the moment, so it most likely would've charted highly were it not even a Bond theme, the Bond connection just gave it a boost. I'm sure the same song wouldn't have topped the charts had anyone else been singing it....except maybe Adele!

(No I can't explain, based on that logic, why Skyfall didn't hit #1 ...)

Skyfall actually sold more copies than Sam Smith did in it's opening week. It's just unfortunate for Adele that one song happened to see even more. It just goes to show that chart positions really aren't everything

it doesnt seem so bad when you watch the film. but that might just be because the visuals during the opening credits are stunning.

It was definitely the visuals that made it IMO. You could've smacked "You Know My Name" back in there and it probably would've worked even better

This has actually grown on me somewhat despite slating it on release. It's still flawed - that falsetto chorus is weak sauce - but I kinda like it now, if not only because the orchestration is pretty nice and cinematic.

oh yes. Goldfrapp would sex it up nicely. I wondered if they've ever been asked. I know St Etienne were in 97 but didn't make the cut
