True that. Quantum and Man with the Golden Gun are considerably weaker.

Sam Smith has grown on me a lot since watching the movie. The title sequence really added a new dimension to it. Still no 'Skyfall' though.

You didn't really believe that did you ? The BBC have confirmed that the emails were fake and the band Spectres have apologised to Sam and everyone involved for releasing the emails without checking first whether or not they were fake.
I'm annoyed at myself for falling for this story...it seems kind of obvious, with hindsight, that it was unlikely.

Its bloody awful. How is this man as big as he is. It stumps me. He sings like a deaf person with a swollen tounge. I cant make out half of what he sings.

Does it work better in the film itself?

Saw the film last night, I think it does actually, it sounds awlful when you hear it as a stand-alone record, but as part of the film soundtrack It works fine.

I agree. I first heard it on Graham Norton and I loved it. It's such a haunting tune, but with the titles it was brilliant.

Personally I think the song and the melody reflects Bond's persona, in that it is dark and lonely. Loved the movie too although I did think it was a bit long.

When I heard Sam Smith was doing the song, I was sceptical because I don't understand the fascination with this guy who appears to be an average "cleanshirt" singer.

I avoided everything Spectre-related (trailers, music etc), so the first time I heard the song was in the cinema on the opening night of the film but it exceeded my expectations. It was even worse than I thought it would be, worse even than that Jack White/Alicia Keys bullshit from Quantum of Solace and Madonna's Die Another Day.

Definitely the worst Bond title song ever.

Sam Smith is a lazy writer and a very lazy singer.
His writing is stilted and clichéd, it always seems forced and is formulaic, there's never anything innovative about it.
As for his singing, fine, he's got a soothing, pleasant tone to his voice but his diction is dreadful, I haven't heard him talk, so I don't know but he sings as though he's got a speech impediment, he's very hard to understand and it takes several listens before you can make out the words and even then, I have to guess at some of them
