Garfield was sadly killed this morning. Mum had called in on a flying visit on her way past, and as she was leaving she reversed over Garfield. Thankfully I didn't witness it, I didn't even know he had snuck outside. Mum was distraught, I was distraught, lots of crying and hugging and now I'm sitting in work and just feel like crying again. I was away over the weekend so literally only got to see him and cuddle him last night before I went to bed, little knowing that would be the last time I'd ever get to do that.

We seem to have no luck when it comes to cats, so I doubt we will get any more. Feel like I've been punched very hard in the chest. Even the thought of having to go in and clean up his room and remove his litter box and toys and feeding bowls make me just want to burst out crying.

You weren't on this earth long Garfield, but you were loved so much. Sweet dreams. ❤❤❤❤❤

So very, very sorry to hear this, how awful for your mum though. I had to say goodbye to my 23 year old cat this morning, she had a seizure over the weekend and did not recover. I have cleared everything out as a kind of therapy really, I will take my time in deciding whether or not to take on another, there are so many pussy cats longing for a loving home, but naturally, I - and you, have to grieve a little first.

Condolances Paddy. I nearly ran over my cat when she was lurking under the car. I try to remember to check under the car now if its raining and never pull out very fast.
RIP Garfield.

Thanks all for your messages.

My 3 year old niece called around yesterday evening and she usually would have played with Garfield and she walked from room to room looking under things saying "cat" and making "pshhhh" noises to call him. She then asked me where he was. I just had to say he was sleeping and she would see him another time. Didn't have the heart to tell her anything else and after she left I had a little cry. I also finally bit the bullet and cleared away his litter tray and food/water bowls. I have some left over food and litter, I might give them to one of our neighbours who has a cat, so at least they won't be wasted.

So very sorry to hear that Paddy. Your mum must have been in a terrible state.

I've just been contacted by my sister who owns Garfield's mum, Twinkle.

Sadly, she was run over and killed a short time ago. My sister is distraught and her kids will be home from school later and they will be too.

Mother and son both killed in the space of 10 days in the same way. I'm heartbroken all over again.

What an awful time you are all going through. Cats are such a worry when they wander outside, I know.
