Sam Smith Overkill?
Master Ozzy
05-10-2015
Sam Smith has an absolutely fantastic voice and I love his album. However, I'm on the verge of not being able to bloody listen to it anymore as I'm getting tired of hearing him everywhere. He released his EP, then we also had him doing 'Latch' with Disclosure and 'La La La' with Naughty Boy. Then he released his own album and released five singles one straight after the other. Inbetween this he was doing covers of songs as well such as Whitney's 'How Will I Know'. Then he went and 'Omen' with Disclosure. Now he's doing the James Bond them, and to top it all off he's also announced that he's releasing a deluxe version of his album which will include all the covers he's done etc. I mean seriously, I'm all for artists doing a big album campaign etc and releasing a decent number of singles to promote it, but this is ridiculous. Massive overkill, and I do actually love his voice. Think I'm going to have to give his album a rest for a good while.

He's doing a lot but I wouldn't say he's absolutely everywhere that it's so unavoidable, like Gaga in 2009.
For example I still haven't heard the Bond song in full, I've briefly heard the "Omen" song but I'd say he's pretty easily avoidable.

Nowadays new artists have to constantly keep their name out there and ride the wave to build up a loyal fan base. I predict after the repackaged re-release he'll disappear for a while and we won't see him until this time next year at the earliest.

Not in agreement either I'm afraid. Between Latch and his own album there was quite a gap.
The new Disclosure song has not been done to death either.

I personally would name people being in overkill Ellie Goulding and Ed Sheeran

I'm not a fan of his music at all, although Omen is a great track. It's got an early 2000s vibe to it which I like.

Well, he's flavour of the year so obviously the record company want to milk it for all its worth.

Why do you think One Direction/Rihanna were releasing a new album every 12 months? If an act becomes popular and successful, the record company just want to keep the money rolling in.

Let Sam have his moment. The public can be fickle and come 2017 he might not be the popular singer he once was. Or could become a bonafide artist with genuine longevity.

He's got so little to his act and is so generic in every aspect that I already felt that he was overexposed a couple of months ago.

EDIT: I guess he better make hay while the sun shines though cause the clock is ticking on Adele coming back.

Sorry but he's a dementor. He sucks the life out of songs.

I find Sam hugely overrated and think he's nowhere near as good as we're led to believe he is (Ed Sheeran's the same, in my opinion), but I wouldn't say he's overexposed.

To me, someone who's overexposed right now is Taylor Swift, whose music seems to be on every TV show, every radio station, she seems to be on the front cover of every magazine etc.

Give it 3 years and no one will remember him. He's just the latest fad.
