I remember in an Bill Nelson interview with Johnnie Walker on BBC Radio Two a couple of years ago that Bill admitted he wan't a bit fan of his biggest hit single "Ships In The Night" with his band Be Bop Deluxe from 1976 despite it also being the main favourite song of many of his fans.

I completely disagree with this. Lose My Breath, Soldier, Jumpin Jumpin, Independent Women, Survivor were all fantastic.

Apparently, Bruce Springsteen hated the entire "Born To Run" album. He said it was "the worst piece of garbage he'd ever heard".

Is it that artists hate their music or is it they liked to begin with and after awhile they get sick of their older songs after having to perform them 1000's of times on tours?
I can see hating something after having to do it so many times. Certain big hits by my favorite artists which I liked originally, after awhile sometimes I dislike them after hearing them over and over again.
Fans always seem to want artists to only perform their bigger hits and don't always want to hear newer material. I can see that could be frustrating for artists because a creative person always wants to create new stuff

I don't think it's true that Madonna hates Holiday and Material Girl at least not now since she performs both on her current tour. She kind of went through a phase where she was tired of her 80's music, but in the last couple of years she seems to have embraced it and says she's nostalgic for the 80's. I guess a lot of artists go through phases like that too, when they do hate their older music because it seems that's all some fans want to hear about and won't embrace their newer stuff, not because the older songs themselves are bad.

I think they hate both overplayed songs and also the artists who were heavily over managed in the early part of their career tend to hate the hits from that era. Mariah recently did little snippets about her 18 #1s and their videos on her Facebook and she hated the videos for like the first 4 #1 songs as the record label managed the whole thing without consulting her.

So I think its a mix of both.

Celine Dion said on The Jonathan Ross Show a couple of years ago that she hated My Heart Will Go On the first time she heard the music for it but was forced to record the song, did the whole thing in one take, and still hates it to this day.

I remember Rihanna replying to a can saying she likes we ride the least although she might of been talking about the Music video?

Beyoncé never performs deja vu despite it being a really big hit so I presume she isn't keen on it

Wow, that is seriously impressive!

I think most of Celine's music is shite but do quite like MHWGO. More interesting than her usual fare.

Girls Aloud hated Love Machine, but who can blame them?

Slash of Guns N Roses hated the fact that Sweet Child O' Mine ever made it big because he was essentially just mucking about on his guitar and Axl Rose decided to make it a song, he never intended for it to be a riff he would have to play night in, night out and only does it today because fans essentially expect him to perform it.

I do chuckle when manufactured groups like GA discuss what they like and don't like, I mean really just shut up and sing the nicely produced pop songs that your tweens love and be grateful to have a career.

Indeed. Not that they had much choice clearly, because their puppeteers found a winning formula and made it work for them - catchy, throwaway pop sung (barely in tune) by 5 Barbie dolls.

I love Shiny Happy People and every time I listen to it, I remember that Michael Stipe hates it. It's just a bit of catchy pop fun.

They hated the original version, which was really REALLY bad, not so sure they hated the version that was released though

The Beta Band hated their first album, declaring it to be 'f***king awful'.

I think they've all come to terms with it, even Peter Buck, who looks as if he's appearing in the video only because someone's holding a loaded gun to his head. The biggest haters were really the precious REM fans who saw it as selling out.

Go listen to their Chemistry or Tangled Up albums. They were not just "5 Barbie dolls"!

I hate snobbery when it comes to music.

Nicola Roberts hates "The Loving Kind" and even nominated it for the Twenty Quid Invoice Prize at the 2009 Popjustice £20 Music Prize.

I've always puzzled over this phrase. How can anyone shut up AND sing, surely if you're doing one, you can't be doing the other

But other than that - yeah, I agree with you

I'm not a Fan of Girls Aloud, but I think The Loving Kind is a good song. I'm surprised she thinks it's that bad considering GA have produced some pretty bad songs.

Yeah, it's a good song. I was a big fan of them but never loved 'A Whole Lotta History' and 'Beautiful Cause You Love Me' should not have been their final single as 'On The Metro' would have been a much better choice, IMO.
