Just thought I would share this I saw in the news:

http://motherboard.vice.com/read/mic...elling-devices

Hope they do well as would be nice to have a bit more competition and choice if they also get more apps in their app store as well.

The 950 looks banging to me.

Things get me excited: OLED display, QHD, 3000MAh Battery, Design, Camera.

Looks like the perfect ~5" phone I've been looking for.

considering the 950 myself as well. Been on android since day one and fancy trying windows now. Was looking through any apps id need and as long as it has chrome, twitter and a sat nav anything else i can make do without.

If the lack of apps turns out to be too annoying then i can always sell it and stick with my LG G2 until something else catches my eye.

It does not have Chrome. It will have the Microsoft Edge browser.

is chrome not available in the store? I thought windows 10 apps were going to be cross compatible from desktop to mobile?

Only at the developers leisure, Chrome isn't available as an "app" on any Windows platform. You can download the browser to your pc/laptop as a full desktop program.

The idea is for developers to write once, work everywhere (Xbox, PC and Mobile), they have just recently launched a new SDK which will make it easier for developers to go cross platform only requiring the smallest of code changes.

I think it highly unlikely Google will develop Apps for windows, given their lack of effort so far......they only have a search app.

Why would Google's Chrome be on Microsoft's Windows Mobile 10 when Microsoft Edge will never be on Google's Android?

Because Microsoft are playing catchup and it would be a good idea to allow anything to be honest.
It's not all about the browser, it's about how many handsets you can shift and how many existing Android and iOS users you can tempt.
In other words, who cares about what browser our users are running, lets' just get Windows out there!

I wouldn't be surprised if the Edge browser comes to Android. Plenty of other browsers have.

It's ok too.
Really fast on a PC.
Still a work in progress but pretty good even now.
I agree. It won't be long before we see Edge for Android and iOS.

Edge will soon have the ability to use Chrome Extentions I read somewhere.. I am thinking they moved away from Internet Explorer for consumer devices to make their browser more Chromelike..

I am definitely getting a lumia 950 or 950xl and probably the new Microsoft Band.. So tempted by the Surface Book not sure I am going to be able to resist it...

I can see Microsoft adding a Surface Phone range next year to properly target the Iphone.

Personally I would love to see them do an Intel based TV box to compete with Fire/Apple TV Roku etc..

I have switched from Windows Phone to android, Android feels very Windows 98, the only reason for the switch is the App support, other than that Windows Phone is better in pretty much every single way! even the little things like notifications, messaging, menu layout.

They've shot themselves in the foot by pricing the 950 at £499, who will buy it other than the MS fanboys if there is any when you can an iPhone 6s for £30 more or an S6 for the same price, not to mention phones like the new Nexus, One Plus 2 etc etc

Tried Windows 10 on my Lumia and wasn't impressed, full of bugs, forced close a lot, wouldn't let me install certain programs, went back to 8.1.

At least this will keep desktop programs available to consumers. Theres an inevitability in there being a 100% move to small universe apps, at least for consumer software.

hmmmm just realised id miss sky+ and sky go which dont seem to be on windows either. Shame as i quite like the look of the OS when i had a play with it. Seemed very smooth and easy to use but as others have said, if the app support isnt there its not worth it.

Microsoft are hoping that now app development is common between the desktop and mobile that there will be a lot more apps.

Even if that happens, they need to be fully functional apps. Not like the far more crippled versions that WP often got compared to Android and iOS.

It's all possible, but will it happen?

This close to product launch, the OS should be way more stable than it is. Heck, as it stands the store barely works (won't reliably update apps, apps that it won't update can't even be deleted from the device).

Windows 10 for PC had major issues with the store, mail app and other 'key' apps that were all fixed on the final update, which was rather late in the day.

I am sure it will be fine.

I've got Windows 10 on my 930 and I have experienced similar problems. I even managed to brick my 1520, which is annoying although I wasn't really using it.

I never used the store on my "main" windows laptop during the developer preview.

Didn't particularly mind the initial build of W10M making my 1020 unusable - it put the blighter into flight mode when there was no flight mode. Took a while to roll back to WP8.1.

I love the look of continuum, but it would be of no use to me. But I'm wanting to go to a smaller device now, the L1020 size is about right for me (which is about the same size as the Xperia Z3 and Z5).

I'm just not convinced by the changes made to W10M, it just doesn't feel as good as W10 does on the desktop. the interface makes sense when you swap between desktop and mobile mode via continuum, just not as good as before in a purely mobile environment.
