Just wondering which dances you guys think couples should/will avoid if they can on their way through the competition?

Rumba or samba for almost everyone. I think the foxtrot can be a vote-loser with the public. Mind you, the judges care much less than they used to, imo, about the different characters of the dance, so it's probably more important not to be the one in the animal costume or given the 'I think I'm gorgeous ' song lyric than which dance.

Rumba, particularly for the male contestants, is usually the kiss of death!

Kellie & Kevin - Rumba

Helen & Aljaz - Salsa

Jay & Aliona - Paso

Katie & Anton - Rumba

I can't remember anyone actually going out on a rumba?

Rumba and Samba.
Men really struggle with the former while both men and women struggle with the latter.

I think the Paso and Argentine Tango are both difficult dances for many celebs too, due to the intensity involved. Most struggle to achieve decent characterisation for either, and they end up looking weak and dull.

Sunetra was the last person to go out on a rumba, but her vote was so dead at that point I don't think it mattered. For all the talk of how rumbas are bad for men, only 5 men have ever been eliminated with one and in four of those cases it was paired with another dance in a two dance week. The last time was Paul, way back in Series 8.

I would avoid one of samba, salsa, American Smooth or Argentine Tango, based on the numbers.

I'd take Argentine Tango off the list. There is nothing about this dance that fits ballroom. It is not even danced in sequences, but is always improvised - unless it is show tango.

It takes an average dancer about 6 years to learn, and a trained dancer a good 4 years of intense study. In actual fact you never stop learning it - which is part of its allure. It's very hard to master.

The Strictly mob should just drop it. Its pros will never grasp it (and why should they?) and all they ever do is make am horrible hash of it.

They never even learn how to 'walk in tango', or understand the embrace, so why bother?

I have a funny feeling that Katie and Anton will do a good rumba. I think their respective characters will aid them here.

Anton is unlikely to choreograph a sleazy rumba, its just not his style. If he is wise he will keep it simple, clean and on the romantic end of the continuum. Katie is confident in herself and has class and elegance.

She also has length of bone dahling, so if she can use that to create good lines it could be really nice dance for them.

I'd like to see them all avoid American Smooth, as I can't see the point of it at all, basically because all the strictly ballroom dances now tend to be based on AS. So what they end up doing is the same routine, and just sticking in a few lifts (which are not part of an authentic smooth anyway).

Surely DOD and KR should avoid the rumba...

Ainsley and Natalie - Rumba (imagine the facial expressions...)

Anita and Gleb - Tango (not really much she'll be bad at technically, but she might struggle with the character)

Anthony and Oti - American Smooth (Ballroom frame + lifts)

Carol and Pasha - Argentine Tango (I think she'd struggle with the passion... and the footwork, and the lifts...)

Daniel and Kristina - Rumba (imagine the facial expressions 2.0...)

Georgia and Giovanni - Quickstep (I think, after seeing her Waltz, her footwork could rapidly fall to pieces in a fast Ballroom)

Helen and Aljaž - Samba (locked hips, ram-rod straight legs, ballet feet, latent insanity)

Jamelia and Tristan - Charleston (precise footwork not her forte, I can see Craig slamming her swivel)

Jay and Aliona - Charleston (not getting a kooky vibe from him)

Jeremy and Karen - Samba ( )

Katie and Anton - Salsa (I could say either Salsa or Samba, but she specifically said she wants to do the Samba, so...)

Kellie and Kevin - Rumba (she seems a bit hammy, so a subtle, romantic performance might be asking a bit much)

Kirsty and Brendan - Viennese Waltz (she'd end up either on the floor or in the audience)

Peter and Janette - Rumba (please, I'm begging you)

You are fab!

A lot of celebs are put into the dance off because the public don't like rumbas and it is left to the judges to save them, which they do quite often. Last year 7 rumbas were danced, 3 went into the dance off, with 1 going out.

Daniel really, really has to dodge the rumba.

I think she has lovely arms and could produce the long lines and resistance through the arm fitting the rumba. Also she might settle and be more serious for the dance. I know what you mean though!

Ainsley and Natalie - Argentine Tango. Ainsley's upper body would look very ugly.

Anita and Gleb - None come to mind yet.

Anthony and Oti - American Smooth, Argentine Tango and Tango. Lifts and strong arms in hold are out, sadly.

Carol and Pasha - Argentine Tango, Jive, Paso Doble, Rumba, Salsa, Samba, Tango.

Daniel and Kristina - Rumba. Nuff said

Georgia and Giovanni - Nothing comes to mind yet.

Helen and Aljaž - Salsa and Samba.

Jamelia and Tristan - Anything requiring lightness, e.g. Jive and Quickstep.

Jay and Aliona - Nothing to comes to mind yet though he lacks personality for me.

Jeremy and Karen - Jive, Paso Doble, Rumba, Salsa and Samba.

Katie and Anton - Nothing comes to mind yet.

Kellie and Kevin - Provided she can be herself and understated then nothing comes to mind. Otherwise, Argentine Tango, Rumba, Samba and Viennese Waltz.

Kirsty and Brendan - Everything. Girl can't move.

Peter and Janette - Anything requiring passionate sincerity, e.g. Argentine Tango and Rumba.

The macarana or agadoo! Neither of them are ever a vote winner!
