Heres a video of an early hands on of the new phones coming soon.

I think the XL is likely to be my next phone.

My L1520 still works fine, these new models do not excite me. I am rather saving for Surface Book.

IMO they look great, the big battery, Amoled display and 20MP camera sounds great, although no fingerprint scanner!

They leave me cold, well maybe lukewarm .

Until WindowsPhone manage to have ALL the apps I need I wouldn't give them a second thought.

Though my wife who has no interest in phones or tech really likes WP. Plain, simple, big tiles, can make phone calls and send texts. I suppose they are very good for that.

People are already starting to Side Load Android Apps on some of the later Microsoft Insider Mobile OS builds so you will likely be able to get want you want in future. There is also a big push to easily convert from Android, IOS, Win32 and Web APPs to Windows 10 using special developer tools.

My Lumia 1020 is showing its age and I currently use a Galaxy Note 4 personal and Iphone 4s for work so I am ready for a new Windows device. The Camera looks like it will take Lumia back to the top of the pile.

I was wondering about uses for Continiuum and was thinking couldn`t it be used with a Remote Desktop APP or VPN to run full Windows Applications from a remote desktop computer or server on the locally connected Monitor?

Also as XBOX will be using windows 10 could`t we play XBOX games in the same way if you have fast WIFI etc..

There is no 940, its called the 950. Just like they skipped Windows 9 they skipped 940 and called it 950.

They both have iris scanner's instead of fingerprint scanner.

Is it as reliable though and would you be able to pay with it?

I want to be able to use a pay service on my next phone and secure it quickly.

Can you explain how that will work with apps like SkyGo? Or my banking app? Or many enterprise apps that also require authentication.

Until such time as WindowsPhone legitimately supports all the apps natively it's a niche type OS that can't be considered.

So will you hold the phone to your eye for WindowsPhonePay? I can just see that taking off...

you just look at the phone you dont hold it up to your eye lol.. If you have an Xbox you would know how quickly it detects you.

It's not an Xbox so how an Xbox works isn't necessarily how the phone will work. He says it's an iris scanner not facial recognition, iris scanners need to be close to the iris to scan, not just you looking at the phone from a distance.

So you can see the difference, lol...

You would also need to be looking at the screen to authorise any payment system, it would be pretty impractical for a contactless payment process...

I work in a shop which uses contactless payments and people who use their iPhone's to pay with on the contactless machines is a nightmare. chip and pin customers are faster.

Why not just use a contactless card, what's the point in getting your phone out to pay? So far I've only seen people use Nationwide and HSBC to do this but it is quite annoying as it takes longer than chip and pin to get to the next customer.

In the demo he looked at it he didn't bring it right up to his eye.. Both have advantages I guess like taking off gloves to use a fingerprint reader.. I read that the Galaxy S7 will have an Iris Scanner so I am sure both types of security will become acceptable.. But I would say to glance a screen will eventually be the norm..

I totally agree with this contactless cards are so easy and to be honest I don`t really like taking out £500 device just to pay for something in some areas of london. But I guess a phone has some added security on the payments.

Sorry, you are talking nonsense, I've seen many people use ApplePay and it's far quicker than chip and pin.

Anyone trying to say that taking out your wallet, getting the card out, inserting it in the machine, waiting for the prompt, entering the pin, waiting for the approved prompt, removing the card, reinserting into the wallet and putting the wallet away is quicker than double clicking the home button and holding the phone above the reader for a second is deluded.

Try and stick to reality.

It works to about 30cm from what I remember, totally unsuitable for anything but unlocking the phone.

Now that you've read the link perhaps you actually understand what it is?

Neither iOS nor Android will use iris recognition for any pay system, there is absolutely no chance as it is completely impractical. How would a person walking through a TFL barrier engage the iris scan while moving and then also get the phone onto the barrier?

It should be quite apparent with very little thought to see a sensitive print reader is far more effective.

The iris scanner is a feature for features sake at this time, others tried facial recognition in the past and consumers didn't take to it. Unfortunately it's a bit like Windows Phone in general, something that looks good at first glance but isn't anywhere near as useful as you thought with more indepth testing and use.

It is an ugly phone from the back isn't it? It's a pity MS couldn't get rid of that ugly porthole protuberance that is so overbearing on the back.

In supermarkets like Tesco or Asda it takes about a second after someone enters the pin for the transaction to go through.

Why would you want to take out your phone to make a payment, what a load of garbage.
