I don't care if it's posh, common, or what it's served on-- as long as they don't ruin the meat with breadcrumbs and egg they're already off to a good start, in my humble opinion.

Pah, I speet on your pathetic pointy steeck in your peasant food! If it isn't a Staedtler 2H (yes, with a rubber on the end, how is that even a question) then your so-called meal is surely no better than Mr Dibbler's portable bread covered farmyard meat lollipops.

Yes, I seem to recall a sketch about an airline's selling point being that the stewardesses served sandwiches wrapped in cling film...

Burgers are junk food. They're supposed to be unhealthy and quick and cheap.

It's like when you're a kid and you go to someone's house and their mum cooks 'home made pizza', probably a lot healthier than what you can order over the phone but it loses its essence. You want the grease, the fat, the feeling that you're going to put on half a stone if you have another slice. It's a treat.

Same with burgers. If I wanted a decent bit of meat I'd go somewhere that didn't have your table numbers displayed on a wooden spoon sticking out of a bucket with a half-full bottle of ketchup where the sauce had congealed the lid shut and sachets of mustard nobody uses because it never tastes like proper mustard.

You want it cheap, bad for you and unhealthy.

We had six chips each, the top of the bun looked as though it had been creosoted and the burger was solid in the middle. For this and a soft drink each, we were charged almost £30! My OH complained about the burgers as we actually couldn't bite into them and after a lot of discussion they knocked a fiver off the bill. We were going to a show so just paid and left, wishing we had just went somewhere cheaper.”

That was just a bad restaurant, you get them at all levels. I could name you a few Michelin starred restaurants i've been to that weren't very good, it doesn't mean they're all crap though.

Love Byron Burger, great burgers cooked medium as they should be. I went to GBK and they couldn't even manage to cook the burger right.

Rubbish.

I'd rather pay the £11 I paid a few weeks ago for a fresh homemade 1/2 pound burger topped with black pudding, stilton, chorizo, a Jack Daniels reduction and homemade chilli jam served with fantastic homemade chips than pay £4 for a cheap average burger. It was absolutely lovely.

A cheap, greasy thing is OK when I'm walking home from a night out extremely drunk but at all other times I want an enjoyable meal if I'm eating out.

Except ... sometimes I don't. Sometimes I want a homemade, non-greasy, fresher version. Oh, and I would MUCH rather have a crispy, thin, wood-fired pizza than a thick wodge of greasy crap.

Exactly. Like I say, cheap and greasy is OK on the way home from a drunk night out but most of the time I want quality food. I've actually got some homemade lamb burgers for tea tonight, I made 4 last night and we had 2 then so having the other 2 tonight. I'm going to make a nice tzatziki and some homemade cayenne potato wedges with them. A really nice meal and not horrible and greasy at all.

Totally agree about the pizza too.

It was a positive one.

Aw, my apologies! I didn't mean to cause confusion.

That's such a well thought out analysis I almost don't have the heart to correct you.

The phrase was "the bomb" but most people have dropped the "the" and now you just say "bomb". My usage of bomb meant fantastic.

"Bruh" isn't a typo at all. It's its own word. When I said "BRUH." it meant that the food is so good that I'm speechless.

I'm very sorry for perplexing you all.

I am however, not rueful about using text speak and/or slang. You all need to get down wiv da mandem.

I tend to like most of the places mentioned here, some more than others admittedly.

I don't think the restaurants themselves hype themselves up, but sometimes people can go a bit overboard. As others have said, it is still just a burger.
