I think the major difference between G4 and acts like Hearsay is the demographic that is buying their stuff.

Not releasing a singe for a while is probably because the album did so well so soon, it didn't need any more immediate promotion. The promo now is probably more to promote the tour than the album. I don't think the single will do too well because most of G4s fans are adults who would rather buy albums than singles. But for that same reason, they will not suffer the drop-off that Hearsay did when the kiddies grew up and decided they weren't "cool" to like. Their second album will sell and ultimately it's album sales, not single sales, that determine long-term future.

Well I think G4 are a bunch of very talented guys with good voices and I wish them well....even if they have murdered Bohemian Rhapsody.
Maybe the X-Factor novelty is wearing off now and they need to do some original material? All I have heard them do so far is cover versions.

They have an almost sell out tour starting tomorrow covering around 22 venues plus several more open air concerts with well known names like Katherine Jenkins and Aled Jones (listed at one as the support act to G4!)

They will be performing solos, duets and playing musical instruments. Robin Gibb will be at the Royal Albert Hall concert and will be performing a Bee Gees number with them. He has said that he wants to write a song for them.

Their next album is due out in November and will have new songs as well as some covers. They sang thenumber 'Barcelona' with Lesley Garrett on Queen Mania to a standing ovation and that track has already been re-recorded for the album!

They also have a great many younger fans even seven year olds and below but particularly teens and twentys.

PS Did you hear the version of Bohehemian Rhapsody on their CD2 album -if not you should.

They work incredibly hard and deserve to succeed

Hardly cover versions they have made unique interpretations of them.

Nor would I they have been spectacular. One of the best to come out of X-Factor who have previously given such great talent as Michaele Mc Manus. Who did you say ?

The problem with G4 is and always has been this:

Name all the opera based popular music songs over the past 50 years.

1. Bohemian Rhapsody
2. THERE IS NO MORE!!!

Why is that a problem?

For an opera band I do think its a slight disadvantage. They obviously aren't going to pen any of their own stuff any time soon, if ever. So unless they;re going to cover classical opera that doesn't stand a hope in hells chance of getting in the charts then Bo Rhap is all they had.

No coincidence they sang it God knows how many times on X-Factor.

Please believe me when I say I'm no fan of G4's.. but i think you are missing the point slightly here; their appeal isn't nessasarily in just covering popular music that has an operatic bias - its in taking any well known "classic" pop track and performing it in their operatic style.

With this in mind I don't think they will be in any hurry to write their own stuff that will be for single release - album fillers may be. I don't think they would take that chance - they have a much better chance of success with carrying on with the formula they have used so far.

Personally I think it has a very limited shelf life - but then I never thought they would sell as many albums as they have..

My thoughts are that it will sound very dated - a bit like the "classical rock" albums that were out in the 80's (?) where classical music was performed with rock drums & guitar.

They all read and write music and play instruments. They are currently writing their own songs.
They sang BR when they were advised to by their mentor not because they decided to themselves.

that's because they do a lot of operatic interpretations of pop and rock songs.. they even did Call On Me, just for a laugh
and anyway, the next album will have their own tracks on it, so let's wait till then and then comment!

There are quite a few operatic influences in pop music songs, a few examples of acts that have done this. Nina Hagen, Klaus Nomi and Malcolm McLaren.
'Fans' by Malcolm McLaren is quite a good song, mixing opera with hip hop beats.

I'd never heard of the 1st 2 metafis, googled and they both look like really interesting characters.

To be fair though they aren't really mainstream pop examples as they seem quite obscure. Can't remember "Fans"
