Harvester new menu & hike in prices(oct 2015)

I'm just wondering if anyone has been to a 'Harvester' in the last 2 days.

I have been to my local branch for a while, Me and my other half booked a table for breakfast tomorrow morning, The menu is still the 'old' one. Even though we hadn't been aware of a new menu we picked what we wanted to eat, Only for me to speak to a fellow work colleague who insisted that his other half went there this morning and the prices have almost doubled for certain things, and some stuff like sauce is now £1.99

I've had a quick scan online to find numerous posts on various websites, from people all over England are disgusted in the pricing and awful menu.

So as above, anyone been lately and found its as bad, as whats been said.

Would be great to hear opinions before setting off tomorrow morning.

You have to "book" for breakfast in a Harvesters?
How busy are they for breakfast?

Their menus are on their website.

I was there yesterday, for lunch not breakfast. Things have gone up a bit maybe by 50p-£1. Certainly not doubled in price.

Their breakfast is still £4.99 for unlimited cooked and continental. We never have to book for breakfast in ours.

As said, menus with prices are on the website.

You still get a sauce with your main meals, you can swap it for free or add an extra sauce for (I think) £1.29. Which seems fair enough to me.

There are much, much better places to go than a Harvester.

My wife and I went to a Toby's eat all you can Breakfast a week or two back and the price there has gone up from £3.99 to £4.29 but it was still good value and I certainly got my monies worth.

We didn't have to book either. The only breakfast place I've ever had to book a breakfast was at a place attached to a Premier Inn, can't remember if it was a Harvesters or not.

Thanks to those who gave useful replies.

Yes we booked as it always seemed very busy driving past. Indeed today it was very busy. Not as bad as waiting up to 1 hour in the evenings for a table.

The unlimited cooked and unlimited continental breakfast was just under £9, not £4.99. The menu at 1st was confusing as the waitress tried to explain what has changed and what you now need to pay and what is no longer included in the price.

In summary it certainly wasn't as bad as what has been made out online. While we usually dine out at a slightly higher end market the prices wasn't really OTT. A competition win for a £10 gift voucher to eat there helped me enjoy the food that much more.

You've misunderstood that - it's a set portion.

Well sorry but Walter is right. There are better places to go,

I'm not sure if if been to a Harvester for Breakfast but I've been there for Dinner and the Fish and Chips they serve are, in my opinion, the worst in Britain.

I am sure I read recently about how some companies will have to hike prices so they can commit to paying the living wage.

I remember Costa being mentioned, I don't remember though if Harvester was mentioned.

It seems a tad ironic though, people will get more wages if more companies do this, but if they all hike the prices then surely it will be harder for people to afford them, so in real terms people are no better off.

Yes, Costa face over a 10% hike in wages in a year and a half thanks to the ludicrous level the wage has been set at.

Look like they need to invest in good quality staff to get rid of the unhygienic stores they seem to have.

.....

Quote:
“But while a Daily Mail investigation revealed that 23 Costa stores were rated two-star or less by the Scores on the Doors initiative – the findings aren’t necessarily representative of the entire chain.
Most of Costa Coffee’s 1,755 shops scored five stars, or received ‘good’ or ‘satisfactory' ratings.”

Maybe people on the living wage shouldn't be eating at Harvesters.

I knew that was coming and I did consider this before I posted it.

Personally, I have only used a Harvester once in the last year that I can recall. It was adequate. If I was less financially stable, I don't think I would miss it by not going there.

Their website states that the unlimited cooked and continental breakfast is £8.49.

23 out of 1700? Hardly a crisis.

Well maybe for the 23 stores they mentioned.

Harvesters seems to have gone down hill of late. I've been in three in recent months, White Rose and Cardigan Fields in Leeds and The Winding Wheel at Junction 32 retail park near Castleford and all three were disappointing with slow service.
Didn't have breakfast at any of them though.

I go to one regularly (not the best food I know but it's convenient and my 3 year old niece loves the salad bar). The waitresses are always complaining about the chefs though. They seem to have a very high turnover of chefs and they don't seem to know what they are doing half the time and often get the order wrong.
