I have a Philips DVD Player (DVP 630) which is Region Free and supports NTSC & PAL but i'm unsure if my TV supports NTSC. It's a LG Lafinion 100hz, which i recently acquired. I have family in North America and they want to send me some DVD's. Will the DVD's play correctly on my TV?

PS. In my TV manual it just mentions PAL & Secam.

Have a look in the DVD player manual. It may support conversion from NTSC to PAL, though it might do it to PAL60 which is similar to the PAL broadcast spec but uses 60 fields per second (like NTSC) not 50. If it does that and your TV can handle PAL60 you ought to be OK.

If the specifications page of your TV manual doesn't mention NTSC, it doesn't mean you can't watch NTSC discs. Some TVs don't support NTSC colour decoding (which means you get a black and white picture). When this problem occurs the solution is to change the setting in the DVD player's display menu to RGB (some DVD players support PAL60, or pseudo-NTSC, and some will even fully convert NTSC to PAL, but 60Hz RGB gives better picture quality).

Bottom line: go ahead and get your Region 1 DVDs. If you have any problems, post here...
