But why no 40?!?!?!?!?!?! It was SOOO good. the judges really p*ss me off sometimes with this underscoring.
And frankly considering that we could lose about 8 couples straight away then he was more than deserving of it. |

I didn't like the start, Jay seemed too casual but his performance picked up at quite a pace and his finish was excellent.

My thoughts exactly.
Yes, he's had dance training but so what? It's established now that a handful of celebs each year will have been to stage school, done ballet, danced before etc. The mix of standards is one of the things that makes Strictly interesting for me. I like knowing there'll be the odd diamond amongst the dross. If all there was for the whole three months was Carol Kirkwoods (lovely person though she is) and Kirsty Gallaghers improving incrementally through a series of turgid error-strewn dances I wouldn't bother watching. |

great jive his dance experience really showed
Always seems a bit unfair to me and I am referring to past contestants that have had professional training. |

It was very, very good. 8/9 probably not 10.
Unless he kind of burns out, it's hard to see how Jay and Aliona won't win this season... I'm certainly looking forward to these two doing an Argentine Tango.

Very true, we'd hate it if everyone was rubbish at the beggining stage, at least it's amazing to see a bloke dance so well when he doesn't look like he should be able to do it. Love Jay, hope he wins - his dancing excites me

absolutely fantastic routine from aliona and danced amazingly well by both of them. starting to see glimmers of the swag and showmanship that jay will hopefully develop more as its needed to complete the package. so funny how he's like a rabbit in the headlights most of the time!

It was amazing fully deserved the score 37 one of the best dances ever on SCD. I personally dont care that he has dance training when he was younger.

No those that start well from week one never win. Or not that history shows so far. Austin Healey and Frankie Sandford are two examples.
I think it's a pretty weak year this year, to be honest, so even if he does weaken towards the end they'll probably still take some stopping. |

Amazzing!
I found Jay and Aliona's dance absolutely amazzing, I don't care if he has been trained in some form of dance so have others and as someone else pointed out, if all the celebs were absolute beginners it would not be very interesting. I like to see someone improve, but I also want to see someone actually dance!

I think it highlights how daft the scoring is when judges throw out 'best ever' comments and then give him 9... Darcey even said she was scoring 9 'because its week 3'. If its worth a 10, give the lad a 10!
It was amazing though - go Jay, and go Aliona!

I think that was the characterisation referencing the film scene.
Anyway, the rugby was on in our place but reading the comments I went in to the living room and said, sorry ...Time Out ...gotta see this dance. After a little to-ing and fro-ing and successful psychological warfare on my part even Mr D went "F me that was good". I think the fact I have a girlie crush on Aliona and he wouldn't kick her out of bed for crumbs helped tbph

If you watch the movie Jay had the Travolta character spot on. The casual jive and laid back to the intense. Just fantastic

It was so good that he'll be doing that again in the final. The judges will pick that one as their favourite.

Indeed it was a massive nod to the movie. The type of dance they do so well on DWTS but usually doesn't work with SCD.
He certainly saved the show because it was a dire up until then. I'll be watching Pulp Fiction later
