I was screaming, that has to be 10s all the way.
Jill Halfpenny also had dance training and back then no one said a thing. |

Jay Great theme and a great dance Overall I absolutely loved it but let's not forget fully trained dancer Not his fault of course He's so eaten up with jealousy. He gave us some advice when he was in the dance off with Zoe Lucker and that was 'vote for the dancing' (in other words .. don't keep the duffers in) .. I'm doing that by voting for Jay. Unless Jay has been making a living in Burn the Floor for the last two years then I'm not interested. As others have said .. Jill had plenty of dance training and no-one gave a fig then .. they just enjoyed the dancing. |

Indeed it was a massive nod to the movie. The type of dance they do so well on DWTS but usually doesn't work with SCD.
He certainly saved the show because it was a dire up until then. I'll be watching Pulp Fiction later ![]()

The moment Jay decides to 'live' the dance he'll blow the competition out of sight. That's the element that's lacking atm. Saw glimpses of it tonight but with an energetic jive, the music and that theme it would pretty hard not to get into the groove. It was outstanding though.

I liked it and I voted for him but I think the praise is going a little OTT.
It wasn't nearly as good as many are saying, and the judges over-praised it as well. I didn't even find it all that enjoyable as a dance, and he was doing odd things with his free arm and hand for much of it. |

Given the scene it was referencing, I thought the 'awkward' off kilter look was intentional characterisation (or very clever choreography from Aliona)

Absolutely stunning. Everything came together so perfectly for this dance - should have been 10s across the board. SO excited to have Jay in the show this year. If he can dance a samba as well as he danced that I will be sending every vote I have his way!

I think that was the characterisation referencing the film scene.

I think that was a nod to the scene in the movie. Travolta just kicks off his shoes and is very casual. I loved it, Aliona as Uma Thurman was also great.

That's how I feel, first thing he said to Aliona sounded like "was that OK?" I love how humble he is

[quote=bigbro24;79955787]Was he impersonating John Travolta in his cha cha and waltz as well, the boy has a blank expression in every dance.
I'm not talking about his previous dances but answering the comment made that he didn't seem to fully 'get into' the dance until later on. Aliona may have been very lucky with this theme and music suiting her celeb but it was, to me, a masterful recreation of an iconic movie scene. There was much, much more dance content in Aliona's dance than the screen original (you actually don't see much footwork at all in the film presumably because Thurman isn't a dancer) but the characterisation was totally on point. It combines classic jive content, performed to a very high standard - he looked like a pro next to her and she was going all out - with the 90's take on the twist from the film. As for a blank expression, I suggest you re-watch as there is an unusually high amount of eye and other facial interaction between Jay and Aliona - some would call in chemistry! |

Yes it was phenomenal. Kudos to Aliona for choreographing such a fab routine.

Here is the scene from pulp fiction for anyone who hasn't seen it before. This clip totally safe for work (no swearing, no violence etc)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WSLMN6g_Od4 It's not meant to be a good dance at all. In the scene, Travolta's character feels sort of obliged to do it - he doesn't even really want to be there with that woman in the first place as it's a dangerous and jealous criminals wife who he has to look after, so he has to entertain her without getting too close or doing anything that could get him chucked through a window! I love how they start so disconnected and goofy but then there's a bit about halfway through where they're just staring into each others eyes totally seriously while still doing all this ridiculous dancing and you know there's trouble ahead! I need to watch this film again! Love it so much! |

I'm a little skeptical about your objectivity.
Come on! I think reasonable marks for that dance would have been 3 8s and a 9. That's still a high score and I think would have put him top of the leaderboard. But best dance ever in Strictly? No. "A level of technique we've never seen" (Craig)? No. Worth 10? No. |

Although his dancing last week was really good too, I think this is the first week where his acting was good as well.
I think he deserved his high score. The triple turns while doing difficult footwork must be really hard. |

I think it highlights how daft the scoring is when judges throw out 'best ever' comments and then give him 9... Darcey even said she was scoring 9 'because its week 3'. If its worth a 10, give the lad a 10!
It was amazing though - go Jay, and go Aliona! ![]() I totally agree. What difference should the week make? |

I have to laugh at how people keep exaggerating Jay's dance training. A bit of contemporary and hip hop does not make him a trained ballet dancer!!
It was a tremendous jive. Perfectly in character and with stunning choreography. I love how they spliced the two songs. Jay is such a polite young man. Always please and thank you - which is unheard of these days. He's also the most virile and manly of any of the boy band contestants. I really love watching him. |
