Jill Halpenny had a lot of dance training as had Tom Chambers, Natalie Gumbede, Denise Van Outen, Kimberley Walsh, Caroline. A good few of the other contestants this year have had previous training, Helen, Georgia, Kellie, Peter, Katie to name a few. The show needs the spectacular as well as the journey contestants. Jay has a lot of work to do on his acting performance level. I believe his is genuinely shy and his Mother also always looks amazed and delighted for her son which is really sweet

If you feel you have to punish the celebs with dancing experience by not voting for them, please, do so. Yes, it's unfair to those like Anthony or Iwan who started with no experience at all and did not get a chance to improve, but OTOH BBC want the programme to be entertaining from the beginning and it would not happen if all dances were mediocre at best.

It seems to me that they are taking DWTS as one direction they can go to please viewers. There already has been a Burn the Floor redirection. The original Strictly style of celebs out of their comfort zone being tested at something new and the interaction with the pro while trying to achieve a clear and consistent target, has been fading since Series 6.

With Aliona, they have a pro who competed in 10 dance, worked at teaching dance from a young age, studied costume design and art, and just happens to be good at choreography and generating chemistry. The full package for the Classic style of Strictly while keeping it fresh. So yes he is a ringer, but he has been paired with a pro who is VERY good at the Strictly job.

Aliona also showed what she can do with a beginner like Harry and his parents acknowledged how amazing Harry's progress had been.

I'm going to sound like a nut now, but I honestly think there is something about the way it builds that is weirdly addictive. It starts quiet, gets good, gets very good and then suddenly goes into a bit that makes make me feel 'I've got to see that again.' Weird - goes off to watch it again...

Yep. I thought he just felt awkward during those little bits but then I realised (after watching it about 10x in 15 mins!) that it was part of the act. Which makes it even better.

By the bellow quotes I take it really depends, so my reservations were correct. That is why when I collect my data (just as a way of wasting time) I also count the likes and shares. Sometimes I will add the amount of comments, though those can not be quantify in a qualitative way as the others (they can be positive, negative, off topic...)

With Youtube Likes are equally as important. Anyone who has an account can only like once, yet you can view it many times. So the conversion rate between how many views it takes to get a like is also very interesting, qualifies the views.

No, you are absolutely right, once you watch it, you have to see it again, it's like a drug...I watched it 3 times in a row on FB yesterday...I think the thing about it is - it's fast and hypnotising...then the music changes and gets faster still and you find yourself just drawn in.

It's additively memorising I think hence the number of views/likes.
