By the bellow quotes I take it really depends, so my reservations were correct. That is why when I collect my data (just as a way of wasting time) I also count the likes and shares. Sometimes I will add the amount of comments, though those can not be quantify in a qualitative way as the others (they can be positive, negative, off topic...)
With Youtube Likes are equally as important. Anyone who has an account can only like once, yet you can view it many times. So the conversion rate between how many views it takes to get a like is also very interesting, qualifies the views.
