He didn't, Darren Gough was so far ahead at that point it wouldn't have made any difference at all by all accounts.

Good job no-one's ever said or thought he learnt to dance like that overnight then.

It won't have the slightest effect on the show the same as it hasn't in any other year where someone with previous dance experience has taken part.

I wouldn't bother trying to make sense of it. The poster obviously does not like Jay as has been seen in their numerous posts about him so I don't think anything you say will make any difference.

I don't think you understand the technique level shown by jay last night, I highly and respectfully doubt that your friend would mimic anything close to that level of expertise and detail.

He does seem to have come on an exceptionally long way since the opening show. He looked like he could barely walk in a straight line in that show and I thought he would be one of the first out.

He seems to suffer quite badly from nerves and comes across as pretty shy so I'm not surprised on opening show night he was a bit stiff.

Yes I suppose so , but then that doesn't explain the choice of Antony . I could understand him ticking the fit handsome young sportsman box . But with an injured arm that he can barely use ? It just doesn't make sense to choose him if there is such a huge queue of prospective candidates out there .
Anyway jay is still a huge ringer , no getting away from that .

Most of those who go in as actors/actresses/even singers like Jamelia will probably have had some previous training of some sort as they usually start in stage schools which teach them dancing along with acting etc. We've had loads of previous contestants who have had training i.e. Denise Van Outen but you have to have some decent dancers otherwise if they all started on zero it would take us 10 years to get to the final and we'd have all died of boredom.

It's when they're not honest about it that I get annoyed. If they pretend they're beginners when we find out they've lied I go right off them.

Given Anthony injured his shoulder in a fight on 20th July and the healing time for a dislocated shoulder is 12 to 16 weeks as we are on week 20 it appears his injury was a lot worse than originally thought.

The decision seem logical to me given what was originally thought to be the problem

Of course Jay is a ringer it says so on his BBC bio, I don't think anyone other than fans of others on this show care 2 hoots,

Also so are plenty of others this season especially.

If you care about it so much read the BBC bio, the info is all there, no one is hiding anything

I agree!
Half of the series I have supported the ringer, have the series not. In Natalie's year I started supporting her but there was something in her personality and her lack of personal chemistry with artem (there was a professional one, but sometimes is not enough) , so I ended up supporting abbey and Alijaz who were second best and had a great chemistry and produced fairly good performances full of joy.
I don't mind ringers, as long as they have good attitude and chemistry.
And by the way, one of the most ever ringers was Caroline and she got next to zero flak for it (no pun intended). And as far as I know she is a woman.

Anthony and people like Jeremy who have no dance experience can't be expected to compete with people like Jay who is said to have 6 years dance school experience.
It's just not fair at all.

It takes the enjoyment out of a programme if we find out that people have varying degrees of experience.

I wonder how Jay would feel if he's put in a boxing ring with Anthony having no boxing experience. Same difference!

I've been out with a friend tonight and she was raving about how Jay did so brilliantly last night and we're only on week 3. I felt I had to tell her about his years of dance training and she was absolutely gutted. As you say, it's not humanly possible for someone to progress that quickly.

Who cares....the majority are really liking him.

Ive gone off Anthony now. Talk about a bad loser and I threw a vote his way. At least Iwan didn't throw his toys out of the pram.

I don't think he singled out Jay, it's just the papers framed it this way for maximum clickbait potential

Not really unless it was Strictly Come Boxing and they were paired with a boxer partner.

At this stage of the competition, the bottom of the leader board isn't competing with the top. It's competing with the bottom/bottom middle. More people must have voted for Carole and Pasha - and Katie and Anton for Natalie and Ainsley. They are the ones he should have an issue with not the ones at the top.

It's not a new thing though. Jill Halfpenny was the first to be criticised for having too much experience compared to others. At least Jay has been honest about having experience, unlike some past contestants where it only came out after the fact.

If people want to see 12 celebs of similar experience compete, Strictly is not the show for you, and hasn't been for the last 10 years. Like it or not, there are two different competitions - talent over personality. It will always be that way.
