Claire Sweeney was the first way back in Series 1. I think Bruno's first judging comment to her was something along the lines of "I thought you'd be better than that, weren't you in Chicago?"

Not really
unless it was Strictly Come Boxing and they were paired with a boxer partner. At this stage of the competition, the bottom of the leader board isn't competing with the top. It's competing with the bottom/bottom middle. More people must have voted for Carole and Pasha - and Katie and Anton for Natalie and Ainsley. They are the ones he should have an issue with not the ones at the top. |

Most of those who go in as actors/actresses/even singers like Jamelia will probably have had some previous training of some sort as they usually start in stage schools which teach them dancing along with acting etc. We've had loads of previous contestants who have had training i.e. Denise Van Outen but you have to have some decent dancers otherwise if they all started on zero it would take us 10 years to get to the final and we'd have all died of boredom.
It's when they're not honest about it that I get annoyed. If they pretend they're beginners when we find out they've lied I go right off them. |

Ah yes, of course you're right - for some reason I have always such a blank about her on the show.

Perhaps they should only have contestants with experience than all the contestants are ringers or else they should adjust the marking. IMO opinion, Anthony had no experience and to even come as far as he did along with an injured arm was OK.

I've sometimes pondered whether the early weeks should be for beginners, do some eliminations and the best of those compete against the more accomplished introduced about a third of the way through.

I agree with you. It must be horrible to take part in a competition knowing that there are people who have experience. Sometimes it only comes out when the contestants have been chose. Personally I wouldn't want to participate knowing I stood no chance against someone who had 6 years training. That's why I think people should be marked accordingly by the judges. Giving Jay a 10 was ridiculous.
People participate in a show like this for all sorts of reasons and often it has nothing to do with winning. You would miss out on so many experiences that life has to offer you if you only enter something or do something if you can win it. |

But that's what happens anyway. The leaderboard effectively puts them into 2 divisions. There is no way - at this stage - that the top/top-middle are in danger of elimination. By the time they do become vulnerable the bottom 4 or 5 have exited and the less able/beginners have upwards of 3 months training under their belts.

The flaw in your argument is that the ringer doesn't always win. Darren Gough, Mark Ramprakash, Harry Judd & mostly Chris Hollins all won against more experienced dancers.

I see that, but perhaps If instead there was a separate round beforehand, before the better contestants join in...also then only the best of the worst as it were, are pitched against the good ones.
![]() At the minute it's what effectively happens anyway - we just get to see the more able dancers at the same time. |

Which is what happens from about Blackpool.

Thank heavens, because I'm not watching a 2 hour show filled with Caroles, Ainslies, Dom Littlewoods, Quentin Wilsons and Paul Daniels. Flipping heck, we'd all need a proper lie down in a darkened room after tedium of that ![]()

I wonder if James would've given a little less of a s**t if he'd been Ola's partner?

Nobody remembers anything about Series 1 other than that Brendan & Natasha were shagging and Chris Parker ran round waving a teatowel over his head pretending to be Batman and called it a paso, you're fine.

I can remember Natasha siding across the floor in the Showdance, and ending up with great holes in her tights.

Wasn't there a showmance between Erin & Martin Offiah? I only saw bits and pieces of that series and can remember a magazine cover saying as much, but could be wrong.

I've been out with a friend tonight and she was raving about how Jay did so brilliantly last night and we're only on week 3. I felt I had to tell her about his years of dance training and she was absolutely gutted. As you say, it's not humanly possible for someone to progress that quickly.

He's good. Being good adds to the enjoyment of a dancing programme. She should be pleased rather than disappointed imho. And I can't believe we are now on 16 pages about this. Hayzoos

![]() ![]() I know it sounds a bit fanciful but it was just an idea I had in regards to the debate about mixed abilities on the show. |

I don't think he singled out Jay, it's just the papers framed it this way for maximum clickbait potential
