As others have said, there have been many celebs over the years with previous dance training, but as far as I'm aware, it's always been in a different dance discipline. As long as their previous training wasn't in ballroom/latin, I'm fine with it - and the producers certainly don't have a problem with it.
I think it came out later that both Jill and Scott had prior ballroom/latin.

Don't you think there is a difference between dance experience as part of your acting training at a theatre school and attending a dance academy?

Ahh as long as it wasn't ball room/latin.
I'll take that then. I do understand it is an entertainment show but it does just make it look like two professional dancers dancing together, which is not the point of the show.

Hiya!! Long time no post! I hope all is well with you.
Jay's dance stirred me into action and where better to discuss.

I think they should indicate in some way when someone is already a professional dancer. Although I did love the dance.
Maybe he can be one of the pros next series.
I'm ok, got a couple of dodgy knees so I won't be doing any dancing. Where have you been hiding, I hope you have been keeping well?

Jay's dance was good but I do feel sort of cheated.

Already raised this on a previous thread. An article in the Daily Mail confirmed that he was at a Drama & Dance School for several years. He is clearly desperate to win and he will but it kind of wrecks the programme when the final result is so obvious after just three weeks.
This with bells on ^ .
I don't want to see perfection every week . I want to see blossoming , in the manner of Jeremy tonight . Plus a gaining of confidence like jeremy and daniel are displaying . Even dancers losing momentum , like peter and antony and Kanton is more watchable and realistic than Mr Perfectly Trained dancing perfectly every week . That's just dull . May as well just sit here watching youtube vids of perfect routines from the past .

How unrealistic to expect that people who are in Show Business have actually been trained. I taught at two drama schools but can't dance my way out of a paper bag - dance training is pretty well compulsory at stage school, as is fencing and horse riding. It's NOT ballroom dance training at any level, more "movement" and occasionally - if you get a good and committed teacher, some Laban work.

Did that stop Caroline winning last year? Frankly I couldn't care less provided the celeb hasn't performed ballroom & Latin in competition. We have far more hang ups ablution celebs with training here than in other countries - I'm happier to see better dancers

I'm glad the BBC allow people to come on the show with dance training, providing it's not in ballroom or latin. Makes for a much more watchable show. Who wants to tune in and seen clod hoppers with no improvement week on week ? Ainsley / Anthony / Daniel / Carole / Jamelia / Kirsty could all go home tomorrow as far as I'm concerned - written them all off already.

I commented on this on the 'Jay's jive' thread, to the effect that a) it's hardly a new thing on this show - hell, Denise van Ringer had already starred in a West End musical when she did Strictly - and b) I don't care. Lovely though Carol Kirkwood and Anthony Agogo are, I don't want to watch three months of nothing but them and their ilk stumbling through routines with incremental improvement. I want to be entertained, and for me that means a variety of standards and some dance diamonds amongst the dross.

Frankly, I want Mark Cavendish as a contestant when he stops riding. He will be the dirtiest ringer that ever rung and I won't care one jot

I trained in dancing (mainly tap, but also ballet, jazz and modern) from when I was three till fifteen. I had to stop due to a knee injury, tried going back but my knee wasn't strong enough. If I went back now, ten years or so since I last did any training, the only thing it would help me with is that I know I can dance. I've never done ballroom or latin so I'd be a beginner like everyone else in that regard. I imagine the majority of the celebs who have had training are in the same boat, having trained in other styles and not for a good few years.

Jay's dance was good but I do feel sort of cheated.
Sadly I have been unable to keep up with BB of recent times. I also suddenly developed an acute interest on politics and spend my time putting the world to rights (spinning) on some national newspapers comment sections, which keeps me busy!!
I must say that my experience with commenting on DS has come in handy on many an occasion.

It's nice to be back here amongst real people though.

I know what you mean about feeling cheated by Jay, despite tonights dance being outstanding. It's what made me come back here to comment.

Oh probably, the end of S6 is still too raw for me to investigate.

Thank goodness he went to a dance academy , it gave us one of the best jives I've ever seen . Loved the theme , music , jammed packed with choreography and they both obviously loved dancing to it . Made my Saturday night.

To be fair there's always been someone in the line up with some sort of dancing experience even as far back as the earlier series. ie. Jill Halfpenny.
Denise Lewis was robbed.

Really? I thought that Peter Andre was supposed to be winning this?
Only he and his delusional fans believe that.

I'm not being sarky , but might as well just keep looking at youtube vids if that's the case .
I don't want perfection every single week from every single person . I want funny and butt-clenching and hiding behind a cushion in horror . Maybe a trip or stumble or two to add a few 's .
Frankly Jay might be my toilet break from now on . Perfection is dreary and there is only so much of his pretendy little boy lost act that I can stand .

I said this about Jay weeks ago. He has had extensive ballet training, hence his ability to spot on spins etc. Like others have said it has now become an entertainment programme and I'd rather watch celebs who've had some dance training (most of them) than the absolute beginners who are usually like a car crash, Anita Rani excepted who just seems to have the knack of picking up the dances and as far as I can see has not had any dance training before.

Carol Kirkwood spent years at dance school.

Making the tea.

Still love her though.

Did you stop reading before you got to the bit about "a variety of standards"?
