I'm a big Chelsee fan.

I could see she was one of the best in the group dance because someone bumped into her and she was able to momentarily joke with them and pick up the routine again - plus she added her own embellishment at one point.

She had done some dancing as a child, but I don't think it was a major help to her. She was working long hours and had low training time, but was a fast learner.
I seem to remember some mention of her doing some street dance? I could be totally wrong there.

Just imagine what she could have done if she'd been able to train full time...

I'm no expert but it looked to me that Jay's technique in hold wasn't as good as Harry Judd's in the Waltz, which Harry did in week 4.

What do the experienced dancers think?

Perhaps we should reserve judgement until we have seen Jay perform in week 4.

Perhaps it's all down to the height difference between the partnership.

Only watched about 5 seconds of each, but the main problem is Jays posture. Harry has naturally much better posture. Even at set up - before they dance - in both videos, you can see this clearly. Harrys arm line is much cleaner, has his back straight.
Thats what I can see in a few seconds. Any height difference should not make any dfference.

Totally agree with this - in ballroom, salsa, swing and AT. A good lead is a godsend to a follower.

It takes ages for a man to learn how to lead well and with confidence.
To be fair though, leading a truly excellent follower is just as an amazing experience - they not only go exactly where you sent them, they do it with such style and panache that you look like the greatest leader on earth - a great follower fills the gaps and pauses in your lead with physical music - it's both terrifying and wonderful to have the opportunity to lead such a dancer

Please do...the Professionals here will surely know the answer..
I promise I will, as soon as I find a clip with a clear image of what I would like interpreted for me - sadly, the SCD is all from the waist up, with a spinny camera, or not danced well enough due to the celeb partners experience, or old footage and really grainy on youtube - the minute I come across it I will post it!

I tried to seek it out the other day and just lost an hour I couldn't afford to lose watching dancing.

Harry was a beginner. He'd had one weeks training at Paso with Ola, for which he was penalised by losing one weeks training with Aliona.

So the Waltzes were done when Jay had his previous contemporary experience 6 years ago (which is what this thread is about) plus 4 weeks training with Aliona,

and Harry one week with Ola 1 year before, plus 5 weeks training with Aliona.

Interesting! Can we compare Matt Baker to this too? Probably no need to add Johnny Ball and the other old one though

Harry was young and fit and definitely has rhythm and endurance from the day job, so he would have had some advantages compared to the rest of his season. Not relevant to a like for like comparison with Jay, of course, but even Aliona is probably not a controlled variable. She's older, has less to prove, has gotten married and although I have nothing but conjecture to base this on, is probably less competitive and more mellow (and also wiser to the weird ways of SCD)!

Matt didn't do a Waltz, but he did do a nice Foxtrot in week 2 - his first ever Ballroom dance. It compares well with Jay's first Ballroom.
