He might get his usual Christmas after all. He's throwing Katie's talent away.

No , he took the blame squarely on his own shoulders and was very cowed in the balcony interview . I felt sorry for him , but yes, for sure he was the one at fault for bad choreography .
I don't think his blaming her will help her confidence in other Latin dances. He's doing his usual act of putting down his partner rather than building them up. |

He had to go awry.
He knows he's hopeless at latin; he's read it here often enough. |

Watching Katie and Anton - Anton had a choreography which was all about Anton. Katie was way too static - in one spot - hardly any travel and when she was on one spot it lacked fluidity and continuous motion. Also I learnt that Anton finds it very difficult to apologise / admit he got it completely wrong. He said he tried to choreograph a routine that he felt matched Katie's ability. If that is the case he doesn't think much of Katie's ability.

The VT and interviews always show everyone seemingly getting on so well together. You wonder how much of that is actually true. There would be something wrong if she wasn't thoroughly cheesed off with Mr Cheese after tonight's debacle.

Anton's choreography tonight was a total disgrace. And the way he danced was no better.
Long before Strictly started he used to say how much he disliked Latin dancing, which is fine - that's his right. But he also had/has no respect for it either, which is not right when he is on a show in which Latin features highly. If Anton had any respect for Katie he would bring in an outside coach to help him with routines and technique (as many of the other pros do, and have done, from time to time). |

Tonight's routine didn't surprise me at all. It was a matter of time before the lack of inventiveness in his latin choreography would be exposed. It's a shame because he has a very good partner. there is so much ability there and she's a lovely lady.
Again like last week (and week before) his dancing seemed erratic, OTT and completely 'ham'. Again she looked better than him. Anton is fantastic in ballroom, I absolutely love watching him in the Pro dances and of course when he danced with Erin but if Latin is 'not your bag' then surely you'd get someone in to help you. Bring the best out of your partner Anton, there is a lot of potential there. |

To be fair. I suspect the music & theme were not brilliant and Anton went for style over substance.

I don't think that was Anton's best choreo by a long chalk .. cha cha content was definitely lacking but Katie didn't dance the bits she was given well .. she looked really awkward and a bit unsteady. Perhaps he couldn't give her more content as could see she wasn't coping.
The cha cha is an awkward dance .. one of the most difficult we're told so it's not surprising she struggled. It's out of the way now .. onwards and upwards. |

There was nothing wrong with Anton's choreography this evening. The lack of content is a very clear indication that Katie was struggling with the Cha Cha and the choreography had to be simplified to accommodate that. Hopefully, it will just be a blip and she will bounce back next week.

I agree that this was a poor cha cha cha but I think this was to do with Katie as much as Anton. He fell on his sword for her but he did qualify that he was trying to do the best by his partner. I'm not an Anton fan and am all for him to leave but I can't blame him wholly for the cha cha cha. A pro can only choreograph as their celeb partner can dance. Oti would have crafted a stunning paso but she has to work with a one-armed man. Katie has talent as a dancer but the leg movement required in cha cha cha seems to stump some very talented dancers - Pixie Lott I'm looking at you. So either you expose your celeb partner to strong criticism or you try and buffer them with a damage limitation routine.

No he didn't. He implied that he matched the choreography to her skill level and said that was his choice. I don't believe she's the one that is rubbish. With another pro she could have produced a reasonable cha cha.
I don't think his blaming her will help her confidence in other Latin dances. He's doing his usual act of putting down his partner rather than building them up. Not another Anton basher please. Many posters on here would be over the moon to be able to dance like him or indeed be as popular as him |

Surely she could have done more than just stand there even if cha cha did not agree with her. This way it looked like he has given up on her or indeed had no clue what to do with her.

See THIS is why I think we need the training vids . To watch them interacting and judge where they are having most problems . Ten seconds now and then is of no use .

I was surprised at Anton. Rather than accepting with grace it was a dud choreography he tried to defend himself by inferring Katie just wasn't good enough for anything more complex.

There wasn't much content and she was mainly posing, which was a shame
![]() That routine just looked under-rehearsed and a bit lazy, it made you wonder what they'd been doing all week. |

The show has progressed so much that being only a ballroom guy just isn't good enough and he always looks so damn odd in the Latin, just awful.

I was always unsure about Anton, even despite Katie's distancing away from the Widdy, Nancy and Judy dance ability comparisons.
It's Anton's fault for the lack of dance content, and I don't understand why he thought Katie didn't have the ability to do more dancing. I think she can be challenged more, so he didn't have to leave her doing naff all for those periods he did. I think part of it was him trying to get away with Latin dance property himself, let alone get Katie to do proper Latin. Anton has danced in pro Latin routines so knows what is required to replicate Latin steps and moves, even if he doesn't look the most convincing himself. He knows Katie is worth more than the drivel of Latin dances he produced for lesser partners and needs to do her a service by at least getting basic content in routines for a start. As a pro he should be able to attempt that, and then work from there. Put aside his own inadeqacues of Latin dance ability and recognise that he should choreography more for someone that can do better (and will welcome the chance to do so). |
