Angie Baby - Helen Reddy

Heard it on someone's transistor radio during a train ride in Hong Kong during one summer when I was around nine. I don't know why, but the song set my imagination on fire. I still have a vivid memory of this experience.

Way Out - The La's

I threw up straight after finishing an unusually stressful exam, so I was taken to a medical room. I was in this horrible place between wanting to throw up and wanting to sleep when I heard this song nearby. This song played loudly while I retched like crazy.

During one bout of retching, it suddenly occurred to me that English songs were a rarity around here. I got off the bed and followed the song to a classroom, and found a new pupil listening to it. She was French, but could speak English. We became friends in that instant.

N Joi - Anthem

It reminds me of the summers of 90/91 when I used to go down to Otterspool Prom with my mate and meet up with his older brother who was usually down there with a load of people from Quadrant Park and other parties, just riding out the come down. It was the start of a slippery slope for me because I was already a bedroom DJ, and it just sucked me in. I remember this being on when I rolled my first E and it kicked in.

Crazy, crazy daze, but I'd wouldn't have done it any differently.

I definitely feel old because I'm struggling to remember the title of another take-you-back-to-that-special-moment song. The only line I can recall goes something like 'goodnight iron, goodnight iron'. :/

'Free' by Deniese Williams and 'Show you the way to go' by The Jacksons - both in the charts at the same time.

I was totally loved up.

Well done, but almost. Google says there are four versions of Goodnight Irene.

The Leadbelly version:
Spoiler
I asked your mother for you
She told me that you was too young
I wish to the Lord I'd never seen your face
or heard your lying tongue

Irene goodnight, Irene goodnight
Goodnight Irene, Goodnight Irene
I'll get you in my dreams

Sometimes I live in the country
Sometimes I live in the town
Sometimes I have a great notion
to jump into the river and drown

Irene goodnight, Irene goodnight
Goodnight Irene, Goodnight Irene
I'll get you in my dreams

Stop ramblin', stop your gamblin'
stop stayin' out late at night
Go home to your wife and your family
sit down by the fireside bright

Irene goodnight, Irene goodnight
Goodnight Irene, Goodnight Irene
I'll get you in my dreams

I love Irene God knows I do
love her till the sea run dry
And if Irene turns her back on me
I'm gonna take morphine and die

Irene goodnight, Irene goodnight
Goodnight Irene, Goodnight Irene
I'll see you in my dreams

The Weavers version:
Spoiler

Irene goodnight, Irene goodnight
Goodnight Irene, goodnight Irene
I'll see you in my dreams

Last Saturday night I got married
Me and my wife settled down
Now me and my wife are parted
I'm gonna take another stroll downtown

Irene goodnight, Irene goodnight
Goodnight Irene, goodnight Irene
I'll see you in my dreams

Sometimes I live in the country
Sometimes I live in town
Sometimes I take a great notion
To jump into the river and drown

Irene goodnight, Irene goodnight
Goodnight Irene, goodnight Irene
I'll see you in my dreams

Stop ramblin', stop your gamblin'
Stop stayin' out late at night
Go home to your wife and family
Stay there by your farsight right

Irene goodnight, Irene goodnight
Goodnight Irene, goodnight Irene
I'll see you in my dreams
Goodnight Irene, goodnight Irene
I'll see you in my dreams
Goodnight Irene, goodnight Irene
I'll see you in my dreams

The Peter, Paul & Mary version:
Spoiler
Irene, goodnight
Irene, goodnight
Goodnight irene, goodnight irene
I'll see you in my dreams

Well, last Saturday night I got married,
Me and my wife settled down
Well now me and my wife are parted,
I'm gonna take another stroll downtown

Some folks they like their sugar
Some folks they like their wine
Some folks love their music
And they sing it all the time

Stop your rambling, why don't you stop your gambling
Well stop your staying out so late at night
Go home to your wife and family
Stay there by the fireside bright

Goodnight irene, goodnight irene
I'll see you in my dreams

The Pete Seeger version:
Spoiler
Irene goodnight,
Irene goodnight.
Goodnight, Irene, goodnight, Irene,
I'll see you in my dreams.

Sometimes I live in the country,
Sometimes I live in town.
Sometimes I take a great notion
To jump into the river and drown.

I asked your mother for you,
She told me you was too young.
I wish to God I'd never seen your face,
I'm sorry you ever was born.

You caused me to weep, you caused me to mourn,
You caused me to leave my home.
But the very last words I heard her say,
Was please sing me one more song.

Seems that the Weavers version is the best known, which explains why no one recognised 'my' (Leadbelly's) song all these years. Thank you for solving this decades-old mystery!

When I was moving from Isle of Man to Leeds. I was on a bus to the airport listening to Rihanna's Rated R. I got through departures and listened to the last few songs before i was too excited/nervous/anxious to listen to any more songs as I was leaving everything behind. The last song that played from that album before turning off was actually The Last Song, i must of been taking everything in during that song, as remember the feeling I was feeling at the time, how dark it was from being cloudy at the airport, and the path I walked from the window through the chairs and bumping into a lady who asked me about her questionaire, about how many days I was going away for, i lied and said 4 days as I didn't want to get into the fact I was moving away. it all comes back with that song weirdly.
