Animal Costumes??
I'm sorry but can we stop this farce, the themed weeks are bad enough but then to make Ainsley and Kirsty look like the entertainers at a 10 year olds birthday is just a joke, it's not funny and adds nothing to the show at all.
I mean Ainsley then had to basically incorporate penguin steps into the routine. Mess. |

I hate them. There's a difference between a family show and a CBeebies show.

I didn't mind that so much, but for judges to then criticise his lack of hip rotation when he's obviously supposed to be a penguin was rather mean I thought.

Kirsty and Brendan's make up was that dark I thought they had been climbing up chimneys at first.

Either everyone has to dress as an animal or no-one does. To single out one or two celebs to fit the theme isn't fair.

Animal costumes are a bad idea. I couldn't make out the steps.

Yes - they were all handicapped by the theme and costumes.
Ainsley's music didn't suit a CCC. |

I don't mind costumes - animal or otherwise - providing they don't detract or interfere with the dancing. Natalie's dress was fine; she should have just kept the penguin "waddling" to the first and last couple of bars of music, and choreographed a proper cha cha in between. The music didn't help, but then that is frequently the case in Strictly.
Kirsty's outfit was ridiculous. She was doing (if I remember correctly?) a foxtrot, the footwork and leg placements for the lady is really difficult, and more often or not, beginners have a tendency to look as if they are walking backwards with their legs apart instead of together. A long dress covers a multitude of sins, while Kirsty's costume made them all too obvious. And remember that dreadful lobster costume one of the celebs had last year? I doubt the best dancer in the world could have made that look good. |

To be honest I don't mind the costumes or themes it's interesting to see what the couples and the costume and hair and makeup teams do with it. Kellie and Kevin's starwars theme was executed really well. The music was perfect for a Charleston, they both looked great and using lightsabers as canes was brilliant. The problem arises when the theme is shoe-horned into a dance that doesn't really match and when the costume department don't seem to get the memo that they're going to need to dance in whatever they put them in. As soon as I saw Kirsty's contraption of a dress I knew something was going to go wrong with it mid-dance.

I initially thought that Kirsty and Brendan were cats - especially since the costume dept had given Brendan a CAT tail.
Both couples had stupid costumes and this is one of the reasons why I hate theme nights. |

dreadful. especially the spaghetti bit at the beginning.... as if brendan and kirsty weren't bad enough already, costumes only highlight this, not disguise it. the penguin get up was slightly less offensive, but only marginally.

Whenever Brendan has the hump (e.g. all last year) they should make him wear a camel costume.

More to the point, wasn't there a tweet from Ola suggesting that Lady and the Tramp was supposed to be her and Iwan's theme ? Why did Brendan get it instead - was their original choice even worse ? Were the dog costumes so expensive that they just HAD to be used ?

Well it would make more sense if the female PRO had had to cope with the stupid tail.

I don't think that the pirate costume particularly helped Peter Andre either

I thought wardrobe did a good job of Natalie's dress, giving a hint of penguin without making her look ridiculous. In fact sans head dress I would have totally worn that black and white number. Ainsley's not quite so successful I thought.
But Brendan and Kirsty - ughh. And I too thought they were less dog and more bear or cat. In fact I thought they may have modelled them on this ![]() Brendan's actually gave me very unpleasant flashbacks. I was expecting him to utter those immortal and vomit inducing words "Would you like me to be the cat?" Bleughhhh

Ainsley and Kirsty not very good, so they drew the short straws. If the dog costumes were originally for Ola and Iwan, then that confirms it - another poor couple. Got to make them memorable somehow.
