never been a fan of her choreography particularly her ballroom - was shocked at how good the routine was tonight to be honest
She did some decent Ballroom for Harry - the QS and AS spring to mind - but I loathed most of her work with Matt Baker. Last night was superlative but we'll have to see what else she brings to the table to follow that.

I loved the dance, she had so much content in the routine and Jay executed the moves with ease.
If you missed it

Don't forget the Vienesse Waltz. That was beautiful

Agreed - it was. She built on it for the AS.

I'm no expert, just an armchair viewer and I thought it was BRILLIANT.

My hubby doesn't watch SCD but when I played it back & showed him the routine he didn't know who the pro dancer was. He thought Jay was fab as was Aliona.

I really loved it.

It's lovely to see the recognition for Aliona.
I've always loved her choreography (even withMatt) but I think she calmed down and struck the perfect balance of edgy and crowd pleasing with Len pleasing content with Harry, but got no recognition for it that year.

It's nice to see people coming round to her.

It was the first Latin routine of hers I've ever thought was well choreographed, which I guess isn't bad for seven series of work.

(actually her samba for Matt was alright, I'm being mean, ignore me)

Yeah I shared the video and a couple of people have said "is she the pro?" So he's obviously damn good.

Often the pro dancers do not choreograph the routines. Did you not realise this? However, in this case I am sure she did but it makes no difference to the brilliance of the dance.
Yes I did realise that in the past pros have got help with some dances, that is why I felt justified in asking the question about this routine.

It does make a difference if people are praising Aliona's choreo on the basis of this jive.

I've always rated Aliona very highly. She's by far and away my favourite pro.
Mine too. What I like about her is that she is always in the background working very hard to showcase her partner's talent and unlike some others very loud and
Me Me Me. Even when she was being very harshly treated in the past few years, she just kept her head down and did not get involved in any arguments.

Lol. What I like about her is when she does get involved in Strictly arguments, she lawyers up instead of just whining on Twitter.

In other words,"you don't know
Well neither do you so what's your point. Citation needed to prove she didn't please, and for that matter to prove all the other pros did choreograph their dances.

It's patently obvious you don't like Aliona. That's your prerogative, but some basis for it would be useful rather than just assuming the worst against her with no basis whatsoever. But just because you dislike her doesn't give you a right to apply different standards to her than to anyone else.

She did some decent ballroom for Matt too - his ballroom Tango and VW in particular.

And his Samba was good too, and his cha cha considering the stupid props...

Sometimes I feel like she doesn't get enough credit for that. The choreography for that jive was outstanding; accenting every beat , full of character and so fitting to the music.

I am so glad that Claudia made sure to congratulate her for that choreography when they were waiting for the scores because I don't think the judges mentioned it.

Well done Aliona ; looking forward to see what they will do next
I've liked her for a long time, she is extremely talented.
The choreography was a bit too much for Jay, though he managed most of the leg- and foot-work pretty well.

It was also a bit too frantic and forced.
The professional judges and the unbiased but knowledgable observers disagree.

Extremely creative, fanciful, in character with the film with a nonchalance and aloof quality. Cool The switch up was excellent and the actual moves were quite advanced. Near competition level. Aliona did a wonderful job.
Agree, yes the switch up was marvellous IMO. It's what caused that jive to receive such praise.
Well done to both of them.

Aliona has been my favourite pro dancer since she joined the show. She nearly always pushes the envelope, sometimes too far it has to be admitted. I thought the choreography last night was perfect. Superbly capturing the mood of one of the most iconic movie dance scenes and also incorporating the necessary jive elements.

Rarely a fan of Aliona's choreography in the past but that routine was one of the best choreographed on Strictly, and absolutely the best ever on a theme week. First time the theme has been integrated and added to the dance, rather than taken from it. Genuis.

Totally disagree in this house, Aliona is basically lazy in her choreography although we don't get the repeated knee slides we get from Ola.
She had a film to copy, easy work.

Some are going way OTT over the choreography . Their performance was excellent but there have been better Jive's on SCD .

It seems to be just random luck on SCD whether those producers will give you decent music to dance too . They were lucky they had two decent pieces of music . Why they were given two, no one knows .

I like Jay but again some are going OTT about everything he does when it's obvious he had years of dance training .

Except the scene in the film is primarily head and shoulder shots with almost no footwork, to hide the fact that Uma Thurman isn't a dancer. Aliona couldn't get away with that on Strictly. She could only give the flavour of the film, the rest is her choreography.

Feel free to post a link to the footwork that was copied from the movie.

Given that many now rate this the best jive in SCD history it would be useful to know who came up with the choreography - can we give Aliona all the credit for it or is there someone else to also credit.

Very often pro dancers ask for help. Especially with dances they don't always do professionally. I was watching 'It Takes Two' yesterday and I can't remember who said it but either Katie,Jamelia or Jay ( I wasn't concentrating that hard !) said thanks to the the pro dancer who had helped them as well as their own pro. If it was Jay .....just saying !

Its often been mentioned that some Professionals may enlist other Professionals help to assist in their choreography in some dances. Given that there are top Professionals that work on the show, assisting in the group numbers etc, this is entirely possible. I'm all for it, if the end result is amazing. However, I'm not saying it happened here with Aliona as I don't know. All I know is, for me, it was the best jive I have seen on this show,
