Well neither do you so what's your point. Citation needed to prove she didn't please, and for that matter to prove all the other pros did choreograph their dances.

It's patently obvious you don't like Aliona. That's your prerogative, but some basis for it would be useful rather than just assuming the worst against her with no basis whatsoever. But just because you dislike her doesn't give you a right to apply different standards to her than to anyone else.
Thank you

Rarely a fan of Aliona's choreography in the past but that routine was one of the best choreographed on Strictly, and absolutely the best ever on a theme week. First time the theme has been integrated and added to the dance, rather than taken from it. Genuis.

I totally agree and I love your blog. Great recap as always

As Alionas background is 10 dance I highly doubt she had help.

I thought the help was only in terms of Charleston, Salsa and Argentine Tango as they aren't the traditional dances? Although I'm guessing the BTF guys might need help with the 10 dances.

It's more likely that Tristan would have had help with Salsa or maybe Anton had help with Cha Cha.

Of the 3 last night Aliona is the least likely to have needed help.

Also Claudia congratulated her for the choreography as did Karen H. I know people don't want to believe Aliona could pull that off but I believe she did. The whole thing was very Aliona. And some of the side by side flicks were similar to her Jive with Matt Baker.

It seems that the two practise sessions Jay and Aliona had on the Saturday in the morning didn't go well at all. Jay only managed to nail the routine when it was live in the evening. He says he doesn't remember much about it and was a little dazed by all the noise afterwards from the audience. Aliona was drilling into him the importance of focus focus focus. It seems this was all Aliona's choreography and effort while Jay has enough technical competence to pull it off when it mattered. I think this explains Jays rather dazed / startled look afterwards.

On the Monday it was back to square one starting off on something completely differently. Presumably Aliona works out the basic choreography on the sunday. There really is no time to rest before Saturday swings around again and they are back live in front of millions.

From all the comments above and what was said on the SCD follow up mid week shows - I am going to chalk this jive masterpiece down to Aliona.

Very often pro dancers ask for help. Especially with dances they don't always do professionally. I was watching 'It Takes Two' yesterday and I can't remember who said it but either Katie,Jamelia or Jay ( I wasn't concentrating that hard !) said thanks to the the pro dancer who had helped them as well as their own pro. If it was Jay .....just saying !
It definitely wasn't Jay. I do remember it being said and that it was a female celeb.

Aliona competed as a Professional in 10 dance, as has been said above, so she is an expert on all the 10 Ballroom and Latin dances.

This is a clip of Aliona dancing several types of dance on the DWTS Tour. (with blonde hair)

Jeremy said that the day before - might you be thinking of that? I'm sure Jay didn't, he gave all the credit to Aliona more than once. Haven't had the chance to listen to Katie and Jamelia's so don't know what they said yet.

Yes, Jeremy was talking about the high marks for his Charleston, and said something like "It's all due to the choreography by Karen.... and her colleague".

Just goes to show - I remember the comment, but couldn't find the clip, and I attributed it to the wrong gender.

Evidence is better than memory.

Jenny Thomas has posted on Facebook saying that she and Scott Cupit are working with Tristan and Jamelia on their Charleston this week. Jenny usual does a batch of the Charleston choreo (and weirdly, some of the Salsa, but working with a different partner, not Scott) and her ex partner Ryan Francois does some too. Most of my favourite Charleston choreo on the show (Anya and Patrick for example) is by Ryan.

As far as I know (and I have chatted with Scott about this) for the the non 10 dance stuff the pros are automatically granted a choreographer/trainer to work with, on the 10 dance stuff, they do their own choreo, but they can consult with the choreography team that does the pro dances, and the results show pro dance accompaniments to the guest singers if they want a second opinion.

I can't imagine any of the routines that have lifts in them are taught without an additional trainer in the room - when learning lifts and airsteps, you need "spotters" for safety - the celebs are generally beginners, and probably costly to insure, so spotters will be present!

(just checked through her timeline - Jenny did Daniel and Kristina's Charleston, Ainslie and Natalie's Salsa, Jamelia and Tristan's Salsa and is currently working on Jamelia and Tristan's Charleston, judging by her recent photos!)

(and Ryan Francois has posted a pic of him with Gleb and Anita, so I guess he had something to do with their Charleston!)

Thanks for that info. I always think its a shame that the Charleston choreographers aren't more openly credited. I remember years ago Chris Marques and Jaci Spencer were much more openly seen helping with Salsa in training clips etc.

So basically we're agreed that Aliona choreographed that Jive?

Round of applause for Aliona then!

Even if there'd never been TJ*, I absolutely loved their waltz. Aside from the fact that Jay seemed -to my eyes- a little too forward leaning, I thought it was a very beautiful, heartfelt deceptively simple looking and gentle dance. No "faffing", just lots of waltz and some show-casing of Jay's strengths (those spins). And Aliona seemed to have taken on board Len's criticism of whispering in Harry's ear which so spoiled that particular dance for him.

A really lovely dance that I've re-watched almost as often as I have TJ.

Really interesting. Another reason as to why they have a variety of dances each week rather than just the two: no time for the expert get round too many couples in Charleston week or whichever.

I agree. Jay's waltz is a thing of beauty choreographically speaking, more understated but I have watched almost as many times as TJ.

I don't understand how they had two different pieces of music to dance too . Surely they could have done the 90 sec to either .
The change of music was what really made it for me. Although both pieces have the same tempo, Misirlou has greater energy. The first half of the dance was relatively languid and the last section was more fierce. It's those shifts in tone that made it all the more interesting.

I thought it a tad unfair on some of the other couples who had less them helpful music .

Maybe it's harder to combine other pieces of music in the same way because they generally have lyrics, making a mash-up that bit trickier.

Aliona always tries to produce something special and it goes without saying it isn't always going to work. We can expect 1 or 2 along the way this season that will no doubt be slammed on here!

When she gets it right though she can produce magic as we all seen with that jive!

Seems to me she's been given a real challenge tonight to choreograph a Quickstep to My Generation! If anyone can though Aliona can!
