So sick of being told we can't post in certain threads if we don't like Capaldi.

I thought we needed this one for balance and hopefully those Capaldi fans will keep their thoughts in their own private sanctuary

I'm also tired of comments like 'if you don't get Capaldi then you don't understand Dr Who'. What a crock of manure.

I've been a massive Who fan for years and, like everyone else, there are Doctors I like and others not so much.

For me, Capaldi is the worst Doctor in years and a massive casting error. The writers just don't seem to know where to go with him and are hampered by an annoying assistant.

Every week I tune in praying for a change of heart and land up disappointed. Hated the first 2 episodes of this season but thought Under the Lake was a great improvement and had high hopes for Before the Flood.

Hopes were quickly dashed with that silly pre-credit scene and it all went really hit and miss after that.

I just find Capaldi very unlikeable and his delivery grates on me.

The supporting cast were a bit wasted but seeing Paul Kaye covered in prosthetics made me think he would make a bloody great Doctor.

Please feel comfortable posting your Capaldi criticisms in here and I hope his ardent fans stick to their own private 'awesome' thread

He was let down by some awful script last year, however as i posted earlier, this series has improved on that alot.
For me he is better than the ridiculously over rated Tennant.
I do not believe he is a 'bad' Doctor at all. I do not think we have had any 'awful'' doctors throughout its 50+ year run. Perhaps slightly weaker ones, but not awful.

I can't agree with you about the Doctor, Steve, as I think that he is so much better than Matt Smith, I do however agree with you about his assistant. She is annoying and I think that she has stayed too long. I would have liked the to have seen a new assistant come into the show when the Doctor regenerated.

I agree, but I don't think he was available at the time, Moffat always had him in mind as RTD has Tennant in mind but had to wait for him. He fits the role perfectly, he adores the Doctor as much( if not more) than ewe do, and he is really getting the feel of the character, I want him to stay forever, no one else will do the job as well.

I see two problems with him. Firstly, his first season was a terrible start, for me. Too many clangers, a companion I couldn't care less about and no fun or sparkle in the show anymore, unlike RTD and Tennant's day.

Secondly, his Doctor doesn't have a larger than life personality and doesn't ooze fun, like his last two predecessors. It makes the show dull. This doesn't have to be a problem, any more than casting an older actor.

The solution, surely, is to get new companions who are designed for him - A Sarah & Harry kind of affair, with younger companions who provide the fun personalities and sexiness for viewers who want it. Capaldi, Barrowman and Tate would have been a great trio, if they hadn't been in the show before.

Capaldi's Doctor really needs exactly the right companion/s to make it work.

I really liked Matt Smith's Doctor, that is until Jenna Coleman tuned up and sucked all the life out of every scene they were in together.

She is just doing the same thing with Peter.

I agree he isn't a great Doctor though, but upon reflection he's not as bad as I thought he was. He needs a "heart on her sleeve" type, someone who can do convincing human emotion.

OP, I'm a supporter of free speech. I'm not going to criticize you, or be rude to you for having an opinion, however much I disagree with it (and believe me, I REALLY disagree with it). However, when you say you find Capaldi very unlikeable, surely you mean 12 as opposed to Capaldi himself? He's a lovely man, by all accounts I've seen.

It seems to me as you have created this thread in the expectation that loads of people are going to agree with what you are saying. However, I think most people on here enjoy Capaldi's performance very much. So whilst I respect your right to have an opinion, I think you've made a mistake in assuming that this will be in any way a popular thread.

I fully understand it when there's countless threads on a topic you don't agree with. I lost count of how many there were on the popularity of Series 5, which is why I tried to put a counterpoint in every thread I could think off!!!

Don't think you can ever successfully get a thread where everyone agrees with you, I think it's good to have a debate.

As for Capaldi, I think sometimes his Doctor suffers from the fact we had two younger, cheery Doctors beforehand.

Plus there are a lot of other Doctor's who display unlikeable traits. You could argue the First was quite grouchy, the Third was quite blatantly patronising and arrogant in his early years and even the Fourth could be quite domineering and over assertive in the way he talked to people. We all know about the Sixth and let's not forget not so long ago, the 9th was also quite hard nosed and rude to people and at times unlikeable.

So I don't see Capaldi as diverting away from what's gone before but as I said he's just followed two very popular Doctors with more humour. I personally love the grumpiness and the way he talks to people. It's refreshing.

It's funny how appreciation threads are very intolerant of people who post criticism or other negative comments, but threads like this are flooded by defenders. If people with such opinions get utterly shouted-down by posters who then go on to get banned for their abuse of them in other, more general threads, why can't those who don't like Capaldi's Doctor have a thread for their own?

Surely this is best for all, as it allows anyone who overly moans about Capaldi in other threads to be directed here, and fans who love him can avoid being reduced to tears every day by avoiding a timelocked thread where the negative Capaldi comments are safely hidden away - Just like a painting **great big smile**.

Just like to point out I agree that the OP has every right to start a thread like this and express an opinion. All I was saying that that it's rare for threads to contain posts where everyone agrees, not only in this type of thread but the appreciation ones as well.

I love Matt Smith was gutted when he left. DT was okay but his shouting really started doing my head in. I just cant help shake the feeling the issue's I've got with PC at the moment aren't really the guys fault in fairness to him.

I hated the character in his 1st outing I really was expecting some twist to explain why the doctor had become this uncaring cold bloody aloof alien that often left me wondering what the hell had happened with the regeneration.

The main problems I see with PC's doctor at the moment. Missy is being written as a stronger character she comes on screen and you can almost forget PC is even there.
We've got Clara who everyone knows is leaving this series but again commanding the action and the direction almost weekly.

The depth still isn't there with Pc's doctor, and its not because of poor acting ability its like they still don't know how to build on the foundation of this new doctor. I hope when we get a new companion this will change the Dynamics again allowing him more scope to expand the character.

As do I, desperately. However... we're two seasons in to Capaldi and I think perceptions of him are pretty settled now. Perhaps a new companion (for the doctor, not for CLARA!) should have been introduced when Capaldi arrived, and then they could have phased Clara out.

I think it may be too late to introduce new companions and recover the ratings after two series. Remember, people who swear blind the ratings haven't dropped only focus on the Saturday night showing, ignoring all the BBC3 repeats that used to happen. No one on the ratings thread will answer me about how many viewers the remaining BBC3 repeat gets, and now even that seems to have disappeared from the schedules in favour of more successful (and older) Top Gear repeats! I know some people hope Capaldi will stay for 7 years, but it's unlikely. Two series may prove to be half of his run. If he does last 7 years, I'd expect that to be on a show that has more gap years than episodes! "To keep it fresh" (Said in the same awkward way that the Five Doctors Reboot said "For the fans").

Yes I agree with all of this but apparently I'm a hater and I'm evil and not a true fan if I don't like all aspects of the show.

PC is a lovely man and great actor who has been poorly served by a character who was designed to be 'different'. The mistake being that the audience didn't want a character THAT different and many didn't care for him or about what happened to him.

The fact he says he doesn't feel like he has a handle on the Doctor's character yet is very telling imo as regards the writing.
