The fact he says he doesn't feel like he has a handle on the Doctor's character yet is very telling imo as regards the writing.”

The audience better get used to it. They eventually do anyway.
Each Doctor is 'designed' to be and have been very different from their previous incarnation. That's the nature of regeneration.
Pertwee's was a lot straighter and serious to Troughton's softer, Chaplin-esque persona, as was Tom Baker's oddball and other-worldly to Pertwee's sophistication. Even Davison was a success in the role and he couldn't have been more different than previous, as we were presented with a rather mild, gentle, yet insecure Doctor from the almost untouchable and infallible T.Baker.
What does connect them all though, without a shadow of doubt, including Capaldi, is at their very core, they all display the Doctor's inherent attributes.

Incidentally, I can't see the OP returning this thread to discuss their own 'debate'. (Why do OP's do that?
)I also cannot see any evidence from his claim that he's been told that he can't post in certain threads. I've even re-read the Appreciation thread and where a couple of people have stated that they can't warm to Capaldi, they're not shot down but replied with a courteous 'entitled to your own opinion'.
