Not his partners fault. I though she did the best Cha Cha moves I've seen for a long time. It wasn't her fault that there wasnt much for her to do.

It's quite telling that despite having a decent partner he can't be bothered to put much of a challenging routine together. I always thought he preferred having the no-hopers and I'm even more convinced now!!

I just don't think he wants to put the effort in, prefers the duffers when just getting them through any sort of basic routine is a success....

I was really disappointed with their cha cha. She can dance, they had a great song so I was expecting something really good. I kept thinking that they would start to dance but they didn't. The judges were right. She deserved much better choreography.

It was very basic and quite dull , but in fairness to Oti there wasn't really anywhere to go with that crap song in a paso and with a somewhat disabled young man .

Expecting something really good? From a Cha Cha routine choreographed by Anton?

The thread is about Anton's choreography not Anthony!

And yes, what was Anton thinking? He better buck his ideas up as Katie deserves much better!

I wish I knew the real story. Anton was so ridiculously excited up till then that I find it impossible to believe he just couldn't be arsed to make an effort. Maybe it was her fault for some reason, but even if so, it was wrong of him to blame her out loud, regardless, and especially for being incapable after she did such a relatively good lively jive. We know she has the stamina and enough chops to make a go of a reasonably-basic cha cha, so his un-gallant declaration doesn't seem to hold a grain of truth.

It's aggravating me so much I'm reassessing my admiration for him - looking back, he found it suspiciously easy to make fun of his partners and he's also often quite patronising and smug with "his girls."

I went through a similar reevaluation with Brendan last series - his obvious disdain for Sunetra was so rude, bordering on cruel - wish I could see his face when Aliona lifts her SECOND mirrorball, especially after he's said such rude things about her.

He thinks he's so clever, taking the blame and at the same time saying he thought she was not capable of doing better.

Katie was too classy to play the brassy prostitute played by Julia Roberts.

Join the club, from Nancy to Jerry he has encouraged people to laugh at his celeb, with Fiona and now Katie it appears he is too lazy to make the effort and as for him not liking Latin, get over it it's half the show !

I think the "real story" is nothing deeper than Anton being very much on board with the idea that this is a fun entertainment show and that he's there for the comedy element, which is why he makes fun of his partnerships. It's a long, drawn-out nod & a wink acknowledgement that I'm sure his partners are sophisticated enough to understand and play along with for the benefits that come from being on a prime-time show.

This time, with the Cha Cha, it may well be that he simply defaulted to his basic-but-amusing-routine mode from force of habit, which was a misjudgement on his part and he's now realised it.

I think he's got used to having to keep it simple. He's not been challenged at all for years. He's underestimated her potential/ability. I think this will be a wake up call for him.

But it wasn't amusing though, IIRC it looked like a straight routine, it just lacked content.

I thought he really let Katie down this week, he isn't strong at choreographing latin dances, and he's not that great at dancing them, the few cha cha steps in the routine Katie looked better than Anton in. There' a reason he normally gets the rubbish dancers - he can't really let them down, I remember t being the same when he had Laila Rouass.

After their jive I thought maybe the prospects were better for Anton's latin choreography this year, but maybe he can just about face a jive but not the more sexy/cuban latins. That cha cha was appalling, he really let Katie down.

He is very different from the Series 1 Anton when he took Lesley Garrett to the semifinal (Week 7) with serious mien.

I suspect some of his "rubbishy" dancers might have been mid-range or improved if they had another teacher.

Agreed. He, and the series, has evolved. He just didn't evolve quickly enough with Katie.
