Very wise words from Michael Cashman in my opinion.

Transphobia was sadly all too prevalent from some quarters when the casting announcement was made.

Thanks for the link Hilda

Discrimination and hatred is all too prevalent, however, great strides have been taken in recent years although trans and disability are sort of the last bastions of hatred but hopefully with TV finally starting to tackle these issues, and EE have finally caught up with the new character of Kyle joining, and Donna joining last year.

As a nation the sensible loving people of this country need to take a stand against the hatred and the bullies. Thanks

No worries.

EastEnders has a proud history and tradition of tackling controversial taboo issues and helping to change public opinion for the better -improving the zeitgeist as I'd call it!

In terms of TV soaps they were ahead of the curve on normalising and promoting gay equality and tackling bigotry.
They also were early starters in portraying mixed race relationships, AIDS and attitudes to rape.

Long may it continue!
