Had a Panasonic Freesat TV and Blu-Ray twin Freesat DVD player recorder about 7 years. TV fine, recorder constantly annoying and I've finally given up on it. Commited to FreeSat as I live in northern Scotland and it's the only option due to the hills.

Technology has progressed and I've got more addle-brained, now wondering what to replace the lot with. Been looking at Finlux 55" TVs (not Freesat) as 4K looks interesting, perhaps matched with a Humax Freesat box/recorder, but will the TV get a signal from the Humax box for normal viewing? Any opinions for an old newbie??

Well Finlux (cheap and nasty Vestel sets) is a long step down from Panasonic

You'd get a better quality picture from a decent make Full HD set.

There's not even an agreed 4K standard decided on yet, so there's no guarantee that existing 4K sets will receive any possible future transmissions. It's also HIGHLY unlikely that there will be any 4K channels on Freesat for a good many years, if at all during the expected life of a set you buy now.

But 4K sets are backwards compatible, so if you buy a 4K set today it will work fine for SD and HD from a Humax box.

Thanks Nigel,
It's those little insider tips that help a lot. I had a Finlux many years ago which had a good picture, had it many years then I gave it to my elderly aunt and it was fine until she watered a pot plant she'd put on top of it.. Say 'RED' backwards, slowly...
In a bit of a quandary now, OK, so I'll kick 4K into touch, doesn't seem worthwhile for Freesat and do I keep my old 37" Panasonic TV and just get a new Freesat recorder...?
Looking at John Lewis as an example, they only have one Full HD TV with freesat built-in, but loads of 4k ones. Just didn't really want to part with a 4 figure sum - 4k TV plus a recorder..

I recently had a stroll around the TV dept of John Lewis and did notice several sets are not flagged as Freesat, but, on looking round the back they do have an LNB input marked as SAT.
Of course they could just be Free To Air satellite but it might be worth delving deeper if you see one that takes your fancy.

Thanks for that but my nearest John Lewis is in Aberdeen, about a 250 mile round trip! I'll give them a call though..

If they don't say Freesat, then it's VERY likely they are only FTA sets - for example most modern Sony sets have FTA satellite tuners, usually not mentioned in the advertising or instructions, and not a UK supported feature.

I have a Panasonic TX47 AS740 It comes complete with both Freeview and Freesat and in addition come with the Freetime 7 day roll back on both.

Our other tv is an LG which comes with FTA sat tuner which was not included in UK specs
The sat tuner section includes around 20 different pre loaded sat names ie "Nile sat" etc and also has DiSEqC 2.2 control functions which was news to me. Only found this out when I connected up sat feed to see what was there
