I probably started this type of thread last year as well. But in view of all the criticism directed towards Jay and Helen and Peter etc.

How many of us in this forum would be considered to be 'ringahs' if we were to become famous and compete in Strictly?

I would probably be considered to have 'dance experience' by some on the forum but not by others as my experience is not in ballroom or latin. I have also not trained as a dancer, but I have attended lessons for much of my childhood + 10 years as an adult.

I'd probably start out ok in the first few weeks and then fail to progress.

Not me...I'd be in the 'duffer' category.

I'd be in there alongside you, I'm sure.

Can I join the club? I've never had a dance lesson in my life and can just about shuffle around in Zumba classes

I had lessons in various different disciplines up to the age of around 14, including competing (and doing fairly well), but no experience at all of ballroom and Latin. I took some additional classes as an adult and have danced on stage.

In all honesty, I'd say that despite doing no ballroom or Latin I do think other dance training would give me an advantage over a sporty type with zero dance knowledge whatsoever. Experience of picking up choreography, finishing lines, and turning a performance 'on' are all pretty useful even if you've never done ballroom or Latin, surely?
(But I don't mind ringahs especially anyway. I like the mix from dire to competent).

I had dancing lessons when I was 16, ballroom and Latin, but you couldn't tell now It was just basic steps without going into details. My cha cha cha would give Craig a heart attack, darling.

If SCD had an "offbeat" section like Come Dancing used to, that'd be my ringah moment, as I had disco lessons back in the day

I'd stand a chance provided I didn't enter the same year as Daniel Day Lewis. i.e. he only has ONE left foot

Although I've never had dance lessons (don't think 'Country dancing' when the gym teacher couldn't be bothered and just bunged a record on counts), but I did study violin for about 4 years so I should have a feel for the music and the structure of it that could be built on.

However, I was rubbish, very rubbish, think I nearly made my teacher cry at my sheer rubbishness on several occasions, so I'm firmly in the duffer camp

Hey, you sound pretty advanced to me!

Are you quite sure you're not really a ringah?

Ditto, Purple Mango.
Zero experience but a decent sense of rhythm & timing and self-gleened knowledge ( to a moderate degree) of steps.
My biggest problem would be learning and retaining in my head the choreography. I'm terrible at that kind of thing.

I did ballet and tap until i was 14... but am currently doing quite a lot of latin and ballroom plus the odd salsa class. So yeah... I'd imagine I'd be hated by ds for my ringerdom then branded "disappointing" after the first live show lol.

May I ask what the specific criteria are in order to be elevated from "ringah" to the lofty status of "dirty ringah"?

How much of a threat a given ringah is to your favourite

I'm ballroom trained but I did my training in Latin America and there are a couple of differences from here to there.

Having said that, I haven't danced in ages as I haven't got a partner. VicsDad not only has two left feet but is also a bit jealous of the idea of me dancing around with another man.
I'll probably join the +55 group dance in the gym so he'll give me a break (and will have no reason to be jealous, hopefully)

I also played the violin. At primary for 4 years. And once i got to secondary i quit (i thought i would be an easy target for bullies). However the stature/posture/grace that you need to play violin stuck with me ever since and I even have had people ask if i was a ballerina or had done ballet.... Never!

My dance expertise lies in the Macarena, Saturday Night, Time Warp, Birdie Song etc..... I absolutely own the dance-floor at parties 😎

Does this mean we should have "duffers" and "dirty duffers" too?

I have about 30 hours of Sevillanas (15 when I was 7 and 15 approx when I was 15)and 5 hours of flamenco lessons in all my life. Then some 50+ hours mallorcan folk dancing which is not technical in the slightliest, and about 10 hours of both Balinese and Indian traditional dances.

But I loved dancing so I used to watch and then dance flamenco, balinese and Indian on my own a lot.

Dont think that qualifies as a ringer. Or does it?
