Dancingbearbear would be a ringah, Ellie would be a dirty ringah
Oh no! Hang on, I AM a dirty ringer!! I completely forgot that I had about ten ballroom lessons with Mr Dancingbearbear before we got married, as we wanted to do a 'proper' first dance. So we had a specially choreographed routine and a few months of lessons from a chappie who was apparently (judging by the photos all over the dance school) a friend of Anton (that's not a euphemism in the style of 'friend of Dorothy', by the way )

I also had a Cuban friend who used to teach me a bit of salsa when we were drunk.

I have never knowingly Charleston-ed.

If I said I just sat on a chair, would that be ok?!

May I ask what the specific criteria are in order to be elevated from "ringah" to the lofty status of "dirty ringah"?
How much of a threat a given ringah is to your favourite

I think that you can also be classed as a dirty ringah if you weren't honest about your ringah status to begin with... like claiming that you only ever sat on a chair in that famous west end musical that's well known for it's Fosse dance numbers.

Never had dance lessons, never done the Birdy Song, Macarena, Time Warp, Gangnam Style or even oopsed upside my head. Possibly have attempted the twist and thrown some shapes to the Bee Gees. Definitely have done the Hokey Cokey!

Well, as I fell in the sink when attempting to self-learn tap dancing, I think that I'd not even receive an invitation to participate.

I'll probably be considered a "ringer " since I took some dance classes.

Great thread op

Can I join the club? I've never had a dance lesson in my life and can just about shuffle around in Zumba classes
No, you will be definitely considered a ringer as well since you took Zumba classes.

No childhood experience or classes what so ever. Sad about that because I think that is when it is of most value.

Started salsa in my late 20's. Doing the usual classes in pubs etc. of varying quality. Initially I couldn't even clap out the rhythm or find the one in the music, let alone the two! Have danced social salsa ever since so more than 15 years. Took up Argentine Tango about 7 years ago. I take a weekly class and am now teaching assistant.

Does that make me a ringha, dirty or otherwise?. I don't think so but you decide.

No but if you can sit on the edge of a stage you can come second!

I lived next door to a lovely woman who taught ballet, tap and modern, which I did from three to sixteen. My best review was probably from my mother: 'Was I any good?' 'No.' If I was being taught with a complete novice, I think I'd understand what I should be doing quicker than they would. I wouldn't be able to do it, though. I'd be one of the ones where the pro celebrates to get me and then looks suicidal by the first real show.

I'm a former gymnast, so I have flexibility and balance, but as for rhythm and characterisation...I'd probably suck and be a duffer xD

In some respects, filthy dirty ringah, but on the other hand the points you would lose for all the face pulling at the music choices and themes and choreography given to you would likely level out the advantage.

"This isn't salsa! You can't make me dance to this!"

Tap and ballet as a kid.
A few years Latin and Ballroom

Studying to take my ballroom teaching exams (associate level)

So technically a ringer.

Latin isn't very good though, although still persevering, and so an ideal partner for Anton really. We could faff around in cha cha and get down to business in foxtrot!

Oh and about 4 year private lessons in AT, not current, but no salsa. Wouldn't know a Charleston if it hit me straight in the face.

interesting thread have been dancing ballroom and latin for many years and have had salsa, merengue and "Bollywood" lessons, but my proudest moment was teaching my son and his fiancée some basic waltz steps for their first dance when they got married in August

I had about a year's worth of ballet, tap, stage, ballroom and Latin lessons when I was 8/9, but as I'm now mid-40s, slightly overweight and with arthritic hips, I think I'd be more likely to be accused of lying about ever having had lessons rather than lying about not having had any!
