This is the difference I think. I did the same. I went from ballet to flamenco , jazz, Cali and Cuban Salsa to ballroom and what I call Ballroom Latin. And sorry but I did NOT find the transition hard. I have said that all along, but sadly it has been ignored.

No two people are the same. The talent and ability will vary.

I have yet to see a ballroom trained person ever transition well to real Cuban Salsa or Argentine Tango. They cannot undo what they know.
So it's perfectly possible, nay easy, to transition from other dance styles to Ballroom and Latin, but virtually impossible to transition well out of that style? Is that what you are saying?

Why is that do you think? As it sounds rather unbelievable to me, especially as Ballroom and Latin covers a variety of movements.

And most interestingly, how do people know they've successfully transitioned? What measurement do they apply, if there is noone to give an objective assessment? (And a totally objective and comprehensive assessment is actually quite hard to come by.)

I remember thinking I could do a pretty good QS a few years ago......

...It wasn't particularly good in retrospect.

It's still not good enough. It never will be, because the bar gets higher.

The more you know, the more you realise you don't know. That's part of the attraction. . I prefer the dancer who slightly undervalues themself (not too much though; they can't be a shrinking violet) as they'll work harder to iron out their faults..

Totally agree, ann! It's like climbing a mountain. You throw your grapple up over the sheer cliff, climb to the "top" then find that there's a whole lot more mountain rising into the mist!

I have got a grand total of 45 series of Strictly and DWTS around the world not including 7 complete series of SYTYCD US both series of SYTYCD UK the two Dance Fever series under my belt.

I must have some understanding of technique delivered through Diffusion alone.
