Gumtree fake responses

Having had a couple of iPhones on gumtree over the last 2 weeks I've had several messages which I believed to be fake, just the way it sounded like my name is so and so can you please email me on this address with your final price, etc. I just knew it wasn't a real reply, and also the fact that it came up with the persons name at the top, rather than just a number as it would with a genuine response. How do they do that?

I bet a lot of people reply too!

EDIT. I put this here because it's to do with mobile phones, hope I made the right decision!

They just sign up with Gumtree as a user - it's free and easy so gets done a lot. I've had all kinds of replies when selling anything on Gumtree.

Read about paypal scam on Google. They send emails saying I am buying this for my friend and happy to pay you £50 on top for postage! If you post it to London / Birmingham which is usually miles away where you are advertising.

Never send anything to anyone if they insist on paying by paypal as they claim and get a refund from paypal after receiving your gadget then you end up losing your gadget.

Cash on collection only is the safest way of selling on gumtree. Avoid paypal on there.

On the other hand, Ebay advises for payments with registered Paypal accounts only and they are offering a protection scheme.

But they also take their sales commission.
