I miss "John from Wales" and Hammy - gentle digs vs vitriol

Another poster somewhere brought back to mind the lovely blogs written for about 3 (was it 4) series by "John from Wales" before he quoted work commitments as his reason to stop.

Since then the number of contesting couples has gone up by 3 - 4, so I guess he has had a lucky escape from overload.

The thing was that his criticism was gentle, his remarks witty, and we all wanted to know his hamster's favourite. Not a hint of the (quite unnecessary) vitriol and hydrochloric acid regularly spilled out by some of the "contributors" to this Strictly Forum and certain tabloid columnists.

Others have tried to take over his mantle, and there was an octopus at some point - but it's hard work being a regular blogger, so nowadays we rely upon Monkseal.

Still miss Hammy, though.

I miss reading those too - looked forward to reading his report every week. I wonder who Hammy's favourite would be this year?

Me too. JFW was the highlight of many boring Monday mornings for me. I know he is actually on the forum incognito. So JFW Fliss sends her kind regards and hopes you and hammy are well and the trebuchet is still in good working order, I think maybe Helen would be hammy a fav this year.

Me too - I always looked forward to his musings - made it worth going to work on all those horrible November and December Mondays.

I loved the looks and comments from 'Mrs JFW' and the Cat as well....

I think Hammy would be supporting either Helen or Georgia this year.

For any newbies wondering who JFW and Hammy are ....

But be warned - you may end up losing a whole evening....

Ah those Mondays when we used to sit on the naughty step eating virtual treats waiting for those hilarious musings to come through! Wonderful.

Although to be fair it would be Hammy 3 or 4 by now. 🐹

Used to have to get up early on a Monday to avoid being late for work. Made Mondays start with a huge grin though.

JfW was the only reason I used to come on here, back in the day! Such witty and affectionate recaps. I think I discovered Monkseal by reading the comments on his posts.

Ah yes! Great times, courtesy of John from Wales! But I think he was right to withdraw before it ceased to be a pleasure for him and became a chore. Thank you for all the fun, John, your reviews were much loved.
